Long Time Lurker, FINALLY AN OWNER!!
Hey everyone!
Long time lurker (started following in 2006, created a profile in 2009), first time posting.
I started noticing the difference in cars at a young age. We lived in Europe when I was growing up (my Dad was a USAF fighter pilot) and the Porsche 911 has always been my dream car. Once I got older, there were always "more important" things to spend my money on, but here I am almost 45 years old and the dream has finally become reality. Some jokingly call it a midlife crisis, and I correct them saying it's my midlife PLAN!
Anyway, recently I'd been scoping slightly used 911's more seriously than usual, and about two weeks ago on a Saturday night my wife looked over at me surfing car listings and said, "If we can afford it, why don't you just go ahead and get one already!"
I had been tracking this beauty for almost a month and it was still showing up on the dealer's site. It's a Certified Pre-Owned 2014 Base Carrera in Sapphire Blue Metallic paint. It checked almost all my boxes. 7-Speed manual transmission, unique but not ugly color, 20" Carrera S rims in Platinum (one of my favorites), PDLS, Glass Sunroof (wouldn't have been a deal breaker), Bose (another "nice to have"), and the Premium Plus Package (yay for ventilated seats in FL!). Yeah, it's a base model, but a huge step-up from my 2012 BMW F30 (328i) and rather than continue searching for an 991S with a lot more miles in the same price range, or bump up my target price, I decided to jump on this one before someone else did.
Sent the dealer an inquiry late that Saturday night and they responded early the following Monday morning. Worked out the deal that Monday and Tuesday, placed a deposit down, and drove four hours out to Jacksonville to pick her up the following weekend.
Got an awesome deal on a car that only had 15,500 miles (c'mon dude.....DRIVE IT!!!!). All the years scouring Rennlist helped me become an informed buyer and find the car that was almost perfect knowing I could sacrifice a few things that can easily be changed in the near future.
Mods to date:
- BlendMount and Mirror Tap
- Ultimate Cupholders
- Tint
- Swapped the clear taillights the previous owner had installed with red ones I got from a parts dismantler. They had very minor scratches from poor washing/drying technique which buffed out in under 3 minutes with some Meguiar's M205 and my 3" RO Polisher and look brand new afterwards....saving me $1K.
Future Mods:
- PS4 tires get installed Friday (car currently has PS Cup 2's that only had 300 miles on them when I picked her up, but it rains here a lot so I'm swapping them for PS4's. Sacrificing dry performance to make sure I'm not all over the place in the rain)
- Frunk Liner and Lid Liner
- AWE Wind Diffusers
- FabSpeed Deluxe Quad-Style Tips. *Question for you all.....is this considered being a "poser"? I really don't like the look of the dual wide ovals it came with, but also don't want to be "that guy" (like fake "S" badges, etc.)
- Sport Steering Wheel (It has the ugly basic/base steering wheel)

Congrats on the purchase! I like the color and love the platinum wheels on the SB or black cars.

Of course not! I replaced the ovals on my Cayenne with quad tips and I think it looks awesome. It's not poser at all. Even if one did think so, he didn't pay for your car, so his opinion doesn't matter.

Of course not! I replaced the ovals on my Cayenne with quad tips and I think it looks awesome. It's not poser at all. Even if one did think so, he didn't pay for your car, so his opinion doesn't matter.

Congratulations on your new 911! Drive it in good health! Fields is my local dealer & they're decent to deal with. I got my Macan from them & we talked to them about at GTS2 that had come in. We ended up passing on it because they weren't offering enough of a discount & because we really wanted one with front axle lift. We ended up finding an near twin of it with FAL at Southpoint in Durham & brought it home last month. The Hubster & I absolutely love it & I expect that you will too.

Very nice car and excellent choices on the mods. I think the quad tips will look great!

I innoculated myself against this by having an (almost) unbroken string of sports cars since I was 16. So not a midlife crisis; rather a life-long affliction.
