400 miles on the clock first wash today and it appears that the interior finish on the left exhaust tip is peeling. There is a small rust spot. Is this normal or are mine somehow defective?

 

You need to stop looking in there.

3 words:

Ceramic
Powder
Coat

Bam!

 

If that really bothers you...I'd get some metal polish like Never dull or Flitz and rub it out...or better yet get some very fine sand paper and smooth it out and paint it with hi-temp exhaust paint in silver or flat black. If you want to spend more money then take the tips off to a ceramic coat place.

I painted my tips on my 2009 and 2012 flat black hi temp ceramic with a rattle can paint. cost me a couple buck...lasted for 2-4 year zero issues.

 

I'd say use a metal polish firstly. As also stated if it bothers you get them ceramic coated.

Think you need to accept they will get stained anyway as they do get hot and bake in any contaminants. Even Porsches are not immune.

 

Already polished after washing, not bothered by stains, just surprised to see a small bit of rust after so little mileage. Exhaust sounds great which is what really matters. Will just clean and polish, thanks for the advice.

 

WTF did you use to clean the tips .....steel wool? Why are the scratches?

You're supposed to use some lube before you have relations with your car.

 

Soap and water with a Wheel Woolie no abrasives of any kind. That is why I asked, been detailing for twenty plus years was surprised at how fast discoloration took place.

 

The new .2 tips are a lower quality than the .1's

 

Both tips are subpar, 991.1 & .2. PAG does not put a lot of thought into this part.

 

Makes sense, was looking at a photo of my 2011 Targa with the optional sport tailpipes and the tips are much nicer.
