hey guys, purchased a used 12 thousand mile 2018 turbo s last fall. just called my nearest Porshe dealer for a oil change and was told $850. not trying to be a cheap ba$tard but this seems crazy. is this a normal price? have not researched doing it myself yet. is it very hard to do it yourself?

Around $350.00 at local Porsche dealer and around $200.00 at the two most popular German car shops here.

That is higher than typical for Porsche dealership ... Wait until you see what a spark plug change costs.

The DIY oil change is one of the easier vehicles I have done, no underbody panels to remove. Back onto ramps and go at it.

I did my own plugs too, but I had the intercoolers off anyway for some bolt-ons I was doing. The plugs are not easy to do without removing the intercooler, doable but not easy.

IIRC the Porsche dealership actually lowers the engine to get to the plugs.

That is insane. Our local dealer here in SW Florida is also delusional about regular maintenance. I use and Indy for about $200.

If you do it yourself first measure the current oil level. Then measure what you remove. Then add in that amount plus a bit if you were initially low, less a bit of you were high, or the same as came out of you were OK (see note below).

Note ... Your goal should be to have the oil level in the middle, not all the way to the top.

i would pay up to $250 just to save the inconvenience of doing it. after watching the vid posted above i will do it myself. i do the oil changes on my wifes c7 z06 and per the video the Porsche looks easier.

The only “tricks” are
- not making a mess of things when you remove the old filter element.
- pour new oil in *slowly*
- make sure that the cable for the “hood” release is properly re-secured when you are done. Take a picture before you start. It will probably get dislodged when you remove the filter canister’s top.

Easiest oil change of any car I've ever owned. Takes maybe 15 minutes. Just DIY if you can.

When I had my 991.1 C2 I'd have my indy do the 'by the book' 5k service interval changes and even then, it was usually about half of that price!
If your car hasn't been dealer maintained since Day 1, then yeah, DIY or find a good local shop. Mine (unfortunately, in a way) has been, so that's why I still take it there for the time being.

IMHO, the greatest advice in this thread was in regard to the hood release cable. Take extra care with this.

That's likely the price for a Porsche's minor annual service, which includes oil and filter change. However, there's a long list of checks and diagnostics that they also do at that service interval.

If you're under any kind of warranty, it's probably a good idea to have a record of complying with Porsche's service requirements. If not, then just the oil filter change is much less.
