Default Help with residual value

Unfortunately I was rear ended <5mph in my 18 tts cab

All ok, very minor rear bumper damage that needs to be replaced. Repair cost is 3k.

If I sell the car now, the Carfax will have accident and it will be worth less. I want the the insurance company to reimburse for the diminished value too.

Anybody know a good way to calculate what that is???

Original msrp was 230k. Car has 8k mi on it.
Thank you.

It's a bumper cover. No big deal. DV will be minimal. You need to get, and to prove, a gap in the pre-accident car's value, and now any lesser value due to a replaced bumper cover. So, work with your dealership to document this number. Take that number to the at-fault insurer, and negotiation a resolution. You can get all fancy and hire a person to do this for you too. You need to weigh the cost, time, complication benefits.

My wife's 2017 Audi S6 (MSRP $80,000) was recently hit by another car who was found at fault. Their insurance company paid for the $4000 repair and I hired an online appraiser who specialized in diminished value claims-cost $175. After going back and forth with the insurance company who refused to pay, I filed a case in small claims court against the driver of the other car. The attorney for her insurance company asked me for all my paperwork regarding the damages, the repair and the professional appraisal, then they cut me a check for another $5000 without going to court. I then sold it for a new 2018 Audi S6 which was being blown out at $23,000 under MSRP.

I can’t stress the impact of an accident being reported on your Carfax. I had a minor accident requiring no paint or body repair (Geico estimate of repair cost $1020).

Now I’m looking to trade in my 2017 991 Turbo Cab and I am getting roughly $15K less.

Does anyone know of a lawyer/agent who can help with filing a diminished value claim?

Try another dealer. I had minor Carfax ding with last 911. One dealer made a big issue out of it while 2 other dealers did not.

When I was talking to several dealers prior to buying my 2018 cpo TTS they all stressed the residual value and the fact that an accident would reduce the value $15-20K.

Maybe Carfax have gotten smarter, but used to be things only showed up if a police report was filed. This is not required to process a claim (at least if the other party admits fault). Of course you should disclose to future buyers (take pics to show the minimal extent of the damage), but there’s also no reason to unnecessarily stigmatize the car.

DV is very real with Porsche cars, and it's often reported by the dealer (my local dealer reports EVERYTHING to Carfax, even new tires or brake pads installed) or repair shop or insurance company that pays the bill. The more valuable the car, the bigger the amount, obviously, but Carfax has been both fantastic when you buy a car and devastating when you sell a car. No doubt, you need to fight hard for that DV amount, and it's always going to be more than $5000 on a Porsche car. Think 10-15% or more, depending on how rare the car is, like a GT3 RS. If it was your fault, document the damage and repair process with tons of pictures and receipts to minimize your own losses. Just like above, if the insurance company won't pay DV from the other driver, unfortunately you have to go after the faulty individual.

(Average drivers on the road don't understand this - I constantly get people tailgating my GT2 RS. If they only understood they could actually be bankrupt if they hit me hard at all...)

some time ago I tried to trade in a very low mileage and clean Suburban, but it had a fender bender on the Carfax, repair was around 2-3K, all but one of the dealers would not accept any car with a blemish on the Carfax. Would not even discuss it with me, just told me No.

I ended up using the one dealer and took a big hit on the car

yes, a blemish on the Carfax is a big deal. there are too many cars out there with a clean Carfax, so people understandably choose them.

Best way around it is fix it out of pocket no insurance then doesn’t get registered to carfax

For reasons noted above, it’s also important not to put blind faith in Carfax. Last weekend I looked at 5 991TTs. Two had undisclosed paint work on main body panels despite clean Carfax reports. These at reputable Porsche and Mercedes dealers. Something like
this this
should be in your arsenal if buying any used car, CPOs included. Not that paint work is a disqualifier, but more info=better.

That was what I was thinking. I suppose, however, had I driven into Randy's GT2RS, I would probably file a claim rather than pay out of pocket.

If it was your fault in the States, can you pay for it and not have a record of it haunt your or the car?

only if the other party agrees to fix out of insurance which means you pay out of pocket for both.

But in some cases, like say a scratch from parking, a shopping cart, someone backing into someone else, I would think that those types of scenarios would be best kept off carfax as they would clearly have an impact of what a potential buyer was thinking about how the car was treated, even though damage is minimal.

Obviously, at a certain point that would get expensive.
