You are definitely in for a treat with those upgraded tires and max camber!!

Looking forward to time at Laguna Seca with the Turbo! (The Turbo is really clumsy at Sears Point but amazing at Laguna Seca)

In your experience with the Porsche 991.1 and 991.2 911 Turbo, what is the best set of slicks and sizes to run for a combination of performance and longevity?

I found Cup2's to be the best mix of performance and longevity, but Hoosier R7's are quicker but fewer fast sessions. Call Forgeline for their latest suggestions on wheels and slick combinations. They sell them already mounted.

unless you have suspension modifications that will allow you to properly increase camber to at least -3 do not use slicks. You will go through them way too quick and also potentially dangerous running them without the proper camber. If you have these abilities then your choices are
  • Non DOT (19" wheels require to remove the rear brake dust as well as shim the lower control arm)
    • Pirellis DH 275/675-19 and 305/690-19 or 375/705-19 (these are Ferrari spec)
    • Hankook 250/650R19 and 300/680R19 (requires 19" rims and width are smaller than you can get on street tires)
  • DOT
    • You can keep the 20" wheels and work with stock or semi stock suspension
    • Hossier (Some people like them I personally have not had any luck with them. They usually only last me 2 days)
    • Trofeo R (my favorite of the street tires)
    • Cup 2 (great reliability)

If you are going with slicks, you can also consider buying scrubs for cents on the dollar.

Anyone have experience mounting Hoosier R7s onto the Turbo wheels? My track wheels haven't come in yet and I'm missing competitions so I have to make due with the stock wheels. 285 in the front and 335 in the rear since I heard they apparently run small

I recently convinced a buddy to try the Michelin Cup 2R on his TTS. I got under 2 minutes in his car at VIR, and there is plenty more time there. After driving the Cup 2R on my 2RS for the past year, I can safely say they are like a drug. I cannot recommend them highly enough if you are looking for personal best lap times on a street tire. They are certainly pricy, but I can't track without them, period. Stopping distance is unbelievable, lateral grip is other-worldly. Anybody else tried the Cup 2R this year?

By the way, just for fun, I took my tow vehicle on track at VIR. It was quicker than I could ever imagine, and just as funny as you can imagine too.

The edit is out of sequence. I ended up passing every one of the cars in this series of clips, but I had my graphic designer assemble the shots and he put them in reverse order...just sayin.

You have no idea how bad - just spent the past 6 days at VIR. Set an all-time best 1:55 and already planning my next trip and found more opportunities. I'm sick.

What would you say the time delta is at an approx. 2 minute track like VIR between the Cup 2 and 2R?

Sickness is perceived by others as a degenerative descent into an abyss from which there is no return.

You have only become attached to a set of rubber...

You'll be fine, carry on.

Easy 3 seconds or more. Much of that comes from confidence in the brake zone more than perceived actual grip. The slowest part of the car is still the driver, even with a time like that.

Yeah, well others might be right in this instance. I'm cool with that!

@Randyc151 thanks for reviving the thread - I know you've been spending time over on the 992TT track thread. Been a while since we've gotten down an dirty here so I'll post an update:
I'm close to 30 days in this year already - back at Summit Point this coming Friday for 3 days before heading to VIR the first week of November for 2 days with TrackDaze and Audi club immediately following that.
Been catching up with @Pdtp#16 who's been offering some good virtual coaching and spare parts.

So, last month I went back to VIR for 3 days and made good progress (not bad for my 2nd time at VIR). Last year I was running 2:14's there and was able to crack off a string of 2:07's before clocking a 2:06.
While I'm still running the PS4S's, there's definitely some more time left the pick up by tightening the loose nut behind the wheel some more.
Lap 4 was FTD

Need to continue to smooth out the pedal box some more. I've had some strong feedback from the person in charge of instructor development as well as Pdtp who's not only been a good coach but also a good friend.
Harnesses go in this week before spending 3 days at Summit Point. Taking a week off for Halloween with the KIDS before heading down to VIR for a few more days.
