New AP interview on GT3, PDK vs Manual etc.
I was looking forward to coming home from work to find a robust discussion of this on RL. Seems like he should have his own thread on this forum. Always entertaining and I think a true 'car guy'. I think he says they are predicting 35%/65% on the manual/PDK ratio. Lets show them otherwise!

AP is the man.
I've said for years that pccb is the wrong choice for hard core track people, and I get a bunch of people telling me I'm dead wrong. AP confirms I'm right during his first interview on the .2
I've said for years that pdk is not substantially faster than manual based on real word experience and data. Then I get a bunch of people telling me pdk gains 1/2 a car length per shift and will lap a manual in 25 minutes (totally absurd). Thanks again for confirming, AP.

I guess I can only defend my position with real world experience and data, then. It will be fun when the .2s in manual and pdk start showing up at the track. I'm still leaning towards pdk, but part of me wants a manual so I can outrun those with pdk and prove a point

I love all quotes from AP- he's like a politician, you could find a quote to contradict himself.

He's doing his job selling cars, and creating hype that will drive up demand. Marketing 101, and they do it well. Sell the car we said is the best, and oh wait here's the new one that has a manual that's just as fast. Buy what you love and not listen to AP he's a salesman.

While a true enthusiast, he certainly has a sales & PR angle, and that was in full flow when the 991.1 GT3 was released. He was forced to defend PDK and the elimination of the manual.
The thing that's different now is that both transmissions are available, so he can say what we wants about the relative benefits of each transmission without being hauled over the coals.

Biggest difference is definitely from 0-30 mph (launch control), then Manual runs through the gears harder due to having less parasitic friction and 37 pounds less weight, then PDK-S pulls harder again at very high speeds due to having an extra gear, allowing the ratios to be more closely spaced (5th-6th-7th).
Where most driving is done, Manual will feel a little quicker...

Yes, there should be some measurable difference (not from the braking performance, but from the loss of some rotating/unsprung mass). But, it will be quite small...

I do find the comparison between PDK and manual quite surprising. To some objective testing defines 'better' and to others that's only one component of 'better'.
My central heating is objectively a better performing heating system than a roaring fire in my outdoor fireplace. Objectively there's no contest. No crazy hot spots or cold spots. I can dial in the exact temperature I want. To me, that doesn't make it 'better' though. Humans like what they like...
