Default Bose weight?

I'm worried I'm going be mocked on this forum for bringing it up, but I'm thinking about getting the Bose sound system which is now an option on the .2 GT3.
I should mention that the soundtrack of the GT3 engine is certainly my main sound system, and I track my car every 6 weeks. However, I also daily my GT3 half of each workweek, and I also plan to keep the .2 GT3 for at least 8 years, so I'm thinking of upgrading the stereo to Bose as there are frequently times I'm commuting or cruising in the car when a better sound system might be nice. I'm no audiophile, but I do like music.

The 991 Bose system comes with several extra small speakers, a subwoofer, and a better and likely heavier amplifier. I"m don't know what the total weight penalty is for all of this as the weight will factor into my decision.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how much weight is added to a 991 when you go from the stock stereo to Bose?

Probably less than the dump you should take before you go driving.

I am an audiophile and track junky and to be honest the large "BOSE" emblems offend me more than the couple pounds of extra ballast

However, many have said (including our friend Nick Murray on Youtube) that the Bose system is entirely revamped on the 991.2 and sounds great now...

I didn't know that the Bose system had been revamped on the 991.2 for the better. That's good to know.

Well you must drop some major loads on your bathrooms visit, LOL.

Bose comes with 4 extra speakers, including a subwoofer, and a bigger amplifier. Stands to reason that all could weigh 15lbs. (a bit more than your average dump, unless you have medical problems........)

I know some guys who justified the LWB, because it saved them a total of 20 lbs over the standard 4 way seats, so for a track car, I think inquiring about the weight penalty of the Bose system is a reasonable question.

It can't add too much ; I think on my RS deleting the entire radio / stereo saved 18lbs .

I'm in a similar situation where I'll definitely be DD'ing my GT3 occasionally so having a decent stereo while in traffic is definitely a plus. Also I hate the idea of adding anything aftermarket.

Anyone know how decent the base stereo is? I'm happy with the Bose in my 991.1 C4S but even that is more than I need.

Guys like that always used to make me laugh at the track. They'd go on and on about how all the carbon fiber nonsense and aftermarket exhaust with matching titanium asswipe saved them 9 pounds. And they're standing there 30 pounds overweight. And then they fill their gas tank up to the top, adding an extra 12 to 15 pounds, nice and high, above the bike's center of gravity...

I too have been contemplating the Bose upgrade but I do not mind the stock system in my GT4. It is fine enough for me( not as bad as i thought it might be) and i am up to $171,000 and I have to stop some where. Trust me - $1600 is not going to break me but I can not keep a new car for the life of me for more than 2 years so a lot of wasted money.

Watch - I will get my .2 GT3 and then the GT4 RS will be rolled out and the vicious cycle will begin again

I hear you Jimmy. Stock audio in GT3 is more than acceptable to me.

If a stereo is holding back from winning the DE , fill the tank to 3/4 and drive naked
With the Grateful Dead blasting.

This reminds me of road cyclists. You get the overweight guy rolling up in a $8k all carbon road bike talking about how it saves 3lbs over the standard model. I'd always say I don't think the weight of your road bike is holding you back.

I doubt it's 15-20 EXTRA pounds above the base stereo.

Either way, who cares - do you really think it's going to impact your track days? Unlikely.

The question is... Are you a fast enough driver on the track to have 10, 50 or even 100lb's have an impact on your lap times?

Enjoy your music!

So true. I'm not walter Rohl by any means.

To be honest I think its' crazy when people do AC or radio delete on their GT cars, because AC is so nice to have, and you only lose 18 lbs with the radio delete, and I would miss the radio and the navigation.

I'm likely wavering because I'm not an audiophile and I don't use my radio half the time anyway, (listening to engine), but when I do listen to the radio/ipod, I want to enjoy it.

The .2 GT3 hits all the boxes for me, with the new engine, new electronics, downforce, etc. so despite the fact that the 2. GT3 will be my 5th Porsche in 8 years, I plan to keep this car for a decade so I won't deprive myself of any options I might enjoy for ten years.

(Although my friends and family don't believe this is my last Porsche for a decade.......)
