I am lucky that dealer's GM is my neighbor and a friend. He took my order with no deposit but said there were 5 others ahead of me and he only gets 3 cars a year. Chances are good if someone passes on a car, otherwise a close call in second year

I've heard dealers asking people in line for GT4RS and GT2RS if they'd like a GT3 allocation instead. Sounds like Porsche is planning building quite a few GT3s. I wouldn't worry too much about an allocation, just not on day one. In 6mo, when news of GT4RS and GT2RS becomes more concrete, GT3 demands will fall off a cliff.

Oh, I''m beyond nervous and into resigned. Resigned that whatever will be, will be and that there are worse things in life than not being able to get someone to take $175,000 from me. I'll give it until this time next year to get an allocation at sticker and then I'll move on with my life.

Hype is big at the moment. We always want what we can't get.
When first cars gets tested it adds to the hype. After few months of deliveries it starts to fade.
Once gt2rs will be shown this summer and launched in the fall. Then that's the latest and greatest.
Can't guarantee everyone that wants a MT 991.2gt3 will get one, but a PDK shouldn't be a problem.
Go easy on the cool aid boys. It's addictive.

Of course the hype is big.
When the 991.1 GT3 came out you could still get a regular C2/S/GTS with the naturally aspirated motor.
Now you basically have every naturally aspirated motor and 6-speed gearbox enthusiast limited to this one car along with all the previous 991.1 GT3 owners that are ready to upgrade and the sticker price is only 143,000.
Even at 20k over this car is a bargain.

the mix. I always wanted a GT3RS but with the PDK only option I will not be looking to get a GT3RS and will keep my GT3. Last generation GT3'S I think will
fall off the cliff if a lot of this generation cars are built.

The 991.2 Carrera's and soon to be delivered .2 GTS's have little hype and not caused much of a stir anywhere on the active 991 board. 911 sales in the USA were down in 2016 over 2015 and continue to slide.
The 718's have been a total flop.
The 991.1 Carrera's and GTS's have held strong pricing and even some increases in 2016 over 2015.
So, I'd say alot of enthusiasts are very hyped about this car. Unlike anything I've seen. Plus look at all the wingless, back seat, will the 6 speed ever come back to a Carrera comments.
Porsche wrongly underestimated many of the Carrera and Cayman/Boxster customers.

The .2 GT3 thread has 136K views in two weeks. Yes, I'd say the hype is big.

i wonder if this means the 718 line is going back to the 6-banger NA.....if they do, I'm buying every turbo 718 and putting them in a hanger

You can't compare a transition year like that. They didn't have inventory for much of the year. While they are still lagging a bit this year, I understand from my SA that they are starting to sell. The key to overcoming the turbo objections is to get potential customers in the car to see for themselves how much quicker it is than the old one and how well it handles. Sound sucks, but the S model is a beast.
