No way Ferrari HQ in Maranello had anything to do with this, nor anyone at FNA in Jersey. If this story has any legs, it might (might) be an inside job among a close knit ring of employees, but nothing more. Likely something deeper going on, which is bringing this to light.

This is jail time in most US states,if not all...
Plus there's yearly inspections : at least in Ny. Maybe in other states it's every 2 years. And the shop has to write the mileage at the time of the inspection. That mileage gets sent automatically to Carfax and Autocheck. Unless they were performing their mandatory inspections at the offending dealer,so they would write whatever they want...

It is useless to assume truth with just accusations at this point....but one thing I can guarantee is that Ferrari (both in USA and in Italy) is not giving authorization for odometer rollbacks to alter original mileage! Sounds like a dealership technician got caught doing something wrong and explained his wrongdoing by referencing Ferrari written materials which most likely he took a unique interpretation of in an attempt to save his a**.

One of the comments on the Jalopnik article mentions this was originally developed because new owners were pissed off getting cars with "delivery miles". It was only supposed to be used from the factory before delivery, but of course when people start throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars around then boundaries get stretched and here we go.
That said, if someone could tell me how to wipe the 5000 miles off my RS I'd probably throw you a few thousand bucks. DM me! :P

Group buy? This will come in handy for the 16,000 miles I racked up in my GT350 in 11 months

BUT Ferrari keeps national records (computer based) of reported warranty repair orders (on the models with included maintenance that is also processed under a warranty claim) that they pay/reimburse dealership to complete. No way that you can change mileage and hide that fact under the multiple points of mileage records both from manufacturer or state levels. It will show up when a service is done at a dealership also. You would need to do a multi company sweep of all records to clean your tracks.
FYI... it is also a federal crime to alter "delivery" miles from factory also
