Windshield Replacement
Anyone had their 991 GT3 windshield replaced? What type of shop? Dealer? Cost?
Just curious. Mine is getting fairly pitted and I might plan to replace it and put Clearplex or similar on the next one. I'll for sure go another season on this one but was just thinking ahead. Always something fun to budget for with the track car.
Cheers.

Yes. Parts cost around 800 IIRC. Plus 300 ish labor.
I usually figure around a grand for a windshield. Was similar in GT4 and 997.

I'm terrible with this type of project so I'd pay someone to do it, but here you go.

No clearplex here. I've viewed windshields as a wear item with track use. The clearplex I've seen has some distortion and it would drive me crazy.

My film guys installed Graffiti film, I can do that 7 times before that cost exceeds the hassle and expense of replacing my oem original wind screen ; view clear and use a marine plastic cleaner polish yields zero wiper chatter when in Spain.

I'm on my third windshield on my GT3. OEM windshield done at the dealer. Factory-like install and results. Tried Clearplex on the second, but the pitting on the film was much worse optically than the glass itself and still developed a crack! I think Clearplex is great if you don't track your car, but not so good at impacts over 80-100 mph.
BTW, if anyone is interested in Clearplex for their 991, I have one sitting in a cardboard tube I received under warranty. Would be willing to sell for reasonable price.

My GT4 had Clearplex on the windshield when I picked it up at the dealer last April. Picked up 3 small cracks, 1/4", in the first week. 8000 miles later the cracks haven't grown and I plan on leaving it on until after the Smokies event this spring. To help with the pitting I spray the windshield with soapy water and go over it with a single edge razor blade held at a shallow angle. It doesn't get rid of the pits but removing the small burrs helps with the wiper blades.

I have clearplex, though I'd probably look at something else. Their customer service is probably the worst I've ever dealt with. Maybe these guys would do better: https://windshield-armor.com/

Safe Lite replaced the windshield on my 2016 911. They got the glass from the local Porsche store. Full retail for glass and install was $1800. Billed my insurance $1300. Zero cost to me. Make sure you get an experienced person. They need to make sure to connect all the wires correctly... wipers, rain sensitive wipers etc.

I've had my windshield replaced once. I used the same guy who does my local dealership. He did a great job with a OEM windshield. I installed clearplex but I'm not sure us worth it. It will pit and they are worse looking then glass pits. Also I noticed a little glare from oncoming headlights. Which causes eye fitgue. I'll leave mine on until Smokies but probably take it off after.
