Yup, you nailed it.

Well anyway, I was wrong about PCNA. They reacted to the 911R sale shenanigan and frankly I didn't think they would care. So much of the 911 pricing is driven not just by what people are buying now but also by what old(er) Porsches are fetching at auction. Thus the obsession with PTS and LWB's. (Heck I saw someone hawking a PTS Macan on this site. Really?) People want that value now. It's a mirage, and one that's about to disappear. When you build 2000-3000 of a model (say RS's) for the USA that's not really that small of a volume. It's not a question of if used prices will drop below MSRP it's a matter of when and then what happens to all the people who payed tens (even a few hundreds) of thousands of dollars OVER msrp? Anger and embarrassment. These are not emotions you want associated with your brand.

You raised an interesting point. Large volume of cars available in the market typically does not allow the price to maintain in the long term. However, look at the Ford GT and the number of cars produced. Or the 458 Scuderia. These cars were produced in high volume and yet, they hold up their value pretty well.

Honestly, I thought the value of the regular GT3 would drop after 6 months of its introduction. I guess I was way off on that one!

Youre right, thats exactly the point, the markups damage the marque, the anger and embarrassment are things that poison future puchases

Quick reminder - the 997.1 GT3RS also traded at 150% of base MSRP when it was introduced into a 'strong' economy, then prices dropped in half during the recession. Doesn't seem to have had an effect on future purchases.

I just picked up my Macan Turbo from its oil change service and the 911 R is still there... 750k is supposedly the take it home right now damage.

For that price maybe they should throw in that Lava O. behind it... and that white one as well.

I know you're making a joke.. but two RS's and one R really do add up to less than $750k together with some markup room left over. If market changes a little bit (both stockmarket and car market).. that dealer may find himself looking at $750k for all three wishfully.

Well thats "Leo". He used to post on the 993 section here but I think he was "exposed" for being in the biz and having something to do with Top Gear in New Jersey. It would make perfect sense. Search his posts...
