Default Rear rotor choice on 991 RS

anyone replaced theirs yet?

I replaced the fronts with AP racing J hooks when new and have replaced the front rings once, but the rears are still stock and seem like they have a bit of life left in them.

Are others replacing the rears with stock or switching to something like AP Racing when replacing?

The AP Racing rotors list for $1,798, while the stocks are $1,295 at Suncoast, but with the APs you just replace rings thereafter for $800 + $60 for hardware. So after the first ring replacements, you are pretty close to break even and the savings are around $500 a set from then on.

I guess I am convincing myself to go with AP Racing, but am curious to hear how others have thought about this.

Thoughts?

Hey Joe. The rear factory OEM rings seem to give around 15-18 track days on the 991 GT3. For asethetics changing them out for the J hooks isnt a bad idea.

How many track days are you getting out of the front Ap rings? What pads are you running?

Thanks

AP rings get at least 25-30 really hard days. I changed them at 25, but they definitely had some life left.

Call Clark at Apexperformance.net, he has discounts for rennlist members and he's great to deal with.

On my 997 I got 40+ days on oem rears.
Fronts about 15-20 days.
Now it looks to be even longer, my rears look new after 24 track days.
Macca; How do you kill off the rears so fast? Doesn't sound right.

Front replaced after 20 days but they were easily good for a few more weekends.

I see not much reason to change rotors.

Must be the RT RE10 pads Peter. I look like 10 max for fronts and I guess 20 max for rears using OEm with OeM pads...

But me too RE 10?
It's all I ever ran on this car, I can't imagine hammering the brakes much more?
Would a GT3 have not enough brake cooling? What else could it be?

I'm using OEM pads and I think they are to blame. They are no where as kind as I hope the RE10 are. The heat is more an issue for them. Plus our tracks seem to be heavy on brakes compared to the few US tracks I've seen. The cooling apparatus seems identical between RS and GT3 and weight is near identical so tracks and pads may be giving you 50% more rotor life. I have RE10 going on next month so I'm hoping I'll get these longer lasting benefits. After tires front rotors are currently my largest running cost...

Default Rears

Thanks for the input guys. I ordered some rear AP racing j hooks from Clark this morning.

They work well on the fronts and I cannot think of a reason they aren't a good choice for the rears. Sticking with what works.

Joe any chance you can share your experience with how many track days you have been getting out of your rotors please?

Default Rotor and Pad life

I can. But my log book is at the weekend house.

I will look this weekend and post. I should have tires, pads and front rotor ring life to share. All will be in the form of # of sessions, with the majority of those sessions being ~25 minute sessions at Watkins Glen, my home track.

Tires are MPSP2s

Pads are RE10s front and rear (just bought some Ferodos to give them a try once the current RE10s burn up)

Rotors are AP Racing J hooks

More to come.

Thanks Joe. Appreciated, like a few others on here always good to hear some data points when it comes to consumerables for these cars on track...
