The question is when can you get one? North American customers who put deposits down 2 years ago with their dealers, from whom they've purchased several Porsches over the years, will get a .2 GT3 in the fall/winter of the 2017.

However for most people, unless willing they're willing to pay over MSRP, they won't get a .2 GT3 until the middle of 2018.
That makes sense. And I'm sure it'll be an awesome car regardless.

I think it will take even longer than that to get one if you're aren't willing to pay a premium or supplicate to a dealer.

Introduction Geneva 2017

Production Initiation Summer / Autumn 2017

First deliveries (usually ROW) Autumn 2017

First NA deliveries Late 2017, early 2018

Probably enough (perceived) demand from the clowns who have deposits down with 14 different dealers to make it difficult to get an MSRP deal until late 2018 or 2019

I have in mind a potential 991.2 GT3 European Delivery (at MSRP), but I wouldn't expect to be able to do that until Summer of 2019 (I don't have a deposit down anywhere; would never buy new unless ED).

And by summer of 2019 we'll have the following:

Good idea of what 992 will be, or maybe 991.2 production doesn't even run that long through 2019?
Incoming 960, maybe?
CHEAP 570S
Etc.

I think you're right in that it will likely be fall/winter of 2018 before people can get MSRP .2 GT3s, unless you put down a deposit 2 years ago.

I did and have a long relationship with a reputable dealer. I could have a .2 GT3 in the fall of 2017, but like you I want to do European delivery, so I don't plan to get my .2 GT3 until the summer of 2018 as a ED. Can't wait for that trip!

The possibility that prices could tank due to widespread and costly lack of engine durability is itself a reason why Porsche will need to step up and take care of these engines and owners. To do otherwise would put a black cloud over Porsche's reputation, particularly with respect to the GT cars, and that would impact the sales and prices of all of the new cars.

I agree, my 2014 now has basically the 2017 engine and updates compliments of warranty. I still have 3 years and 64000 miles to go before I need to concern myself with it at all. The new cars have the same engine as mine at this point including the new.2 that will be coming out. No worries, driving it and enjoying.

Collectors barely drive their cars so reliability is never an issue for them.

Guest89, I don't think I've heard you talk about how you like your GT3. What are your thoughts?

Glen the .2 engine is not the same as the .1 at all but your gusto for racking up enjoyable miles is definitely to be applauded. If I was in your boat I'd do the same for sure.

I put 8k+ miles on my GT3 before trading it for my RS. I couldn't agree more with how special the experience is. I loved every second of driving that car. The RS has been amazing but there was a feeling in the GT3 and that drivetrain that just felt a bit more lively and spirited. They truly pushed the limits with that engine and when I can, I will buy another one. I believe the 991.1s will be keepers for both their engines and their beauty. Before selling it, at any price, I'd drive everything that could be had for $190k (road legal & can be driven in 3 seasons) and see if you can find a better driver... and then let me know what it is.

Its true CJ. The G1 engine currently being fitted as a warranty replacement unit for 991 GT3 and in the Jult onwards production 991 RS is a long long way away from the E0 unit fitted in my 2013 991 GT3 when I picked it up from the factory 3 years ago....

My money is on the 991.2 GT3 engine being near identical to the latest G1 engine with DLC cams and followers. Regardless of what rhetoric is wheeled out by AP and crew on launch day to distance the engine from the one that first found its way into the 991 GT3.

Id be glad to be wrong as I have a firm "allocation" for one...

Are there any differences in the .2 GT3 engine vis a vis the .1 GT3 G engine? If so what are they? Any changes in valve train or oiling???
