My sense of humor is not that good. When beryllium was banned from Formula 1, it was replaced in brake calipers by Aluminum Lithium. And the calipers that have been designed for and are being made for the 911R and for the GT2RS are of forged Al-Li.

Love this thread.
Definitely gonna focus on reducing weight in .2 GT3 this next year. My plan is:
1) magnesium wheels
2) titanium exhaust w/ side muffler delete
3) Surface transform Carbon Ceramic
4) Antigravity battery
But now you have my wheels spinning with all the other options and possibilities.

BlazinPond: You have chosen four relatively cost efficient/effective areas of weight reduction in Porsche GT cars. Two words of caution, however. First, while magnesium wheels reduce rotating as well as unsprung weight, they are more delicate than aluminum or steel and if you live in an area with very bad roads (e.g., many potholes). I would consider not changing the OE wheels as they are less painful (expensive) to replace if damaged. Second, due to titanium's oxidation temperature (approximately 530 degrees degrees C) it will not have the longevity of a steel or an Inconel system.

Robert, I just saw this thread, the 930 Slant nose is amazing, I believe it was featured in Excellence once, i read it over and over, the special Porsche emblems are so cool.
Do you think the Weissach package carbon sway bars can be adapted for this project?
what is your opinion of Mg wheels, do they have a more finite lifespan than the usual alloy wheels?

The Flachbau (literally, Flat Nose) is entirely factory, i.e., everything and anything on this car was installed and/o built in by Porsche AG in Zuffenhausen. Indeed, it might be the most customized car built by the factory in decades.
As to the carbon fiber antiroll bars from the Weissach Pack, although I do not know their specifics, given they are for a car with very different characteristics (power, weight, intended handling objectives), I doubt that the GT2 pieces would be appropriate for the R. Having said this, one could easily measure the R bars and make carbon fiber ones for the R. The cost, however, for the tooling would be substantial. An alternative might be hybrid bars of carbon fiber and "printed" titanium (see attached). These could be done in quantity for perhaps $1000 to $1500 each and would achieve similar weight savings.
