I'd love to have a basic M3 as a DD: not the GTS though.

i´m looking forward to somehow get one. (hopefully)

i bought/built/hooned/tracked a couple of different E46M and E92M over the past. stock and tuned. DKG/SMGII and stick. all of them where superb!

for pure FUN in terms of driving - nearly nothing beats a front-engine + RWD car especially with a BMW chassis.
(+Recaro PP, KW Competition Suspensions, -150kg)

the GTS is the first modern streetlegal car with water injection as far as i know.
and also optional Carbon rims (i think the carbon wheels of the 350GT are not street legal in EU and than only Königsegg is left - but as far a BMW can be compared with the Eggs everything is ok )

it is faster than the 991GT3 around the ring.
(and this based on the fact that the GT3 was started nearly on a blank sheet of paper as sportscar - and the GTS was startet on a X.000.000 units chassis)

here the thread i started two month ago: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...r-than-rs.html

regarding the styling: discussions about design is..

maybe white or black will help:

and the Carbon rims:

about pricing: clearly the GTS is heavy - as also the E46MCSL and the E92GTS were.

and if you buy a second hand M4 + add a lot of fancy parts you will get out with 50k left and same laptime.
but than it is not original it is a garage project. it is not 700pcs limited. no warranty.

same discussion about GT3 and RS... the RS is also overpriced based on this matter... i personally do not see things like this. especially in this times where some sportscars are also value keeper.

BMW has the 100years anniversary within this year. so this will boom the GTS even more. and further on the BMW and ///M fanbase is 10times the size - compared to the Porsche GT fanbase.
but one problem left: in terms of liquidity the fanbase comparison is conversely.

You'd think I learned my lesson after the M3 but I'm actually toying with the idea of picking up an M2 as a DD, mainly because most of the early reviews indicate it's everything the M3 isn't and more of what M used to stand for. Would be nice to have 4 doors though. BMW Blog is pitching the M2 Gran Coupe (4 door) idea but I don't know that BMW will bite.

We'll find out when sport auto tests. I can't imagine it will be faster than a GT3, but it's still a beast of car and the most intense thing BMW has done in a while. And 300 coming to the US...there were 2300 Z8s produced.

No, it didn't. The thing just looks too big and heavy. It may not be big and heavy, but the styling is chunky and inelegant. It is undeniably muscular and aggressive, though. As you say, styling is wholly subjective. If you like it, that is all that matters, and I hope you get one.

I see you have an M3 CS. I have one too. I will be curious to know how you rate it against the GTS, knowing the latter is vastly more capable in performance terms.

It does look better in black. I was thinking of the matte gray, but now I may have a change of heart. I am the first person on the list to receive one at a local BMW dealer.

Many of the comments are absolutely right about BMW M cars. The last M car that BMW made was the 1M. I had for 2 years, lots of fun. I hope the GTS will be a true driver car not like the Lexus with the "M" badge.

In terms of its price, I think it is somewhat reasonable because it's a limited edition and a possibly future collector item. I can't wait for the true reviews to come out!!!

BMW figured out how to bring a production car to the US with the roll cage, something Porsche has not done yet!
