Wow, amazing amount of vitriol against MT. I read a million pieces of technical material over my professional career with which I disagreed but learned to respect those that wrote them as they have reasons to support their opinions. No doubt Porsche made sure that RS had to be faster that does not mean it is easier. At least that's my take on what the article says.

I just watched this:

And, that reminded me of this:

That reminded me of this:

And this:

I concluded from the first video that the Z28 was preferred over the 991 Turbo S. And, from the second video, that the GT3 was preferred over the Z28 meaning, it's preferred over the Turbo S. And, from the third and fourth videos that the GT3 is pretty much awesome.

The fact that the GT3 RS was spun three times by Randy means something to me. I'll never be as good a driver as Randy and, if he's having issues with the RS, so would I. Sure, the RS is a better car. But, if I drove it, my guess is that I'd find the GT3 much easier to drive and, I'll never see the difference on road or track.

I respect Randy's and Carlos's opinion. For those of you lucky enough to have a RS, cheers! For those of you lucky enough to have a GT3, cheers!

Last weekend a valet who agreed to let me self park at a resort asked me "is that a GT3 RS or just a GT3" to which I responded, "it's just a GT3." And, the kid smiled and said, yeah, "just a GT3" knowing what that meant.

Dan (is very, very happy with what he's got)

thats because they have motors that are nearly double the size of the porsche's making in excess of 600 ft/lbs of torque.

And sell for 3 times $ of the others too!

maybe porsche is just re doig their early 60s lemans strategy of not competing for overall win, just index of performance with small motors? Lol

So what.

That said, the Kuhmos on the Viper are worth seconds alone, they are practically race slicks. They are faster than Pirelli Trofeo-R's, which are supposedly already shown to be faster than MPSC2.

Plus, the RS had an as delivered street/track alignment, the Viper has a full track alignment. Anybody with ANY real experience knows that a good track alignment is also worth SECONDS on a track.

Tire and alignment, that's the difference.

Give the RS same tires, and a track alignment.....the results will be a lot closer, maybe even surprising depending on the track.

^^^ You forgot downforce and price. Viper $128M, GT3RS $200 - $325.

I would not beleive for a moment that RS is slower. GT3 loses to cars with any real downforce - voila, RS has more downforce - and GT3 overworks front tires at times - here you go, RS has bigger front tire patch. The issues may have been due to car set up. My GT3 came set up for moderate understeer, which is about perfect for anyone up to advanced levels. RS may be set up neutrally, or for mild oversteer, which would be a challenge for most, especially given the inherent off-throttle oversteer which is rather strong with 991 GT3 (it shows up only when nannies are off, because with nannies on the throttle is kept a bit open by the computer to prevent rear traction loss).

Lol. MSRP for base RS is $176k. It needs no other cost options. Just because you can't get one at msrp is not the point. 128K vs 176k is the more correct comparison.

Have an RS coming and been through enough GT3s to have learned a little. ACR should always be faster. It's up on power and aero. However life is full of compromises and that car shouldn't be driven on the street. It's uncomfortable, ugly, poorly appointed, and on and on. You c ant have it all. You can always make an car faster. ****, I bet you could find a few shmucks to stuff an ACR engine in a Miata, but fastest does not equal having the best car. I'm ok with the ACR being a faster car. It's is. But the RS has 100 other categories crushed compared to it.
Amen!

Bit off topic here but since we are talking about alignment and setup.. I have my RS arriving next week, can I get the dealership to set it up for road/track ? Or is it best to just leave it alone and use trakcars setup at some other garage..?

I think the problem is that the GT3 comes stock pretty well sorted, where Porsche assumes RS owners will be spending a lot more time dialing in the setup. And these guys didn't do that.

I would suggest driving it first and then dialing in the car to your own personal preferences, driving style, and particular track layout.
