It has become clear to me, that this whole "trusted source" business is total crap. Looks like anyone can just claim an inside source, throw out a rumor (the recent turbocharged GT3 b.S. Comes to mind), and Rennlist falls all over itself trying to reverse-engineer the rumor via a veritable mush-mash of official denials, incredulous acceptance, grief-filled validation questions, and worst of all.. Support for the offending rumor when it looks like the majority is going to swing that way anyway and being left out in the cold world of sanity starts to look lonely or unpopular.

Look people, We need a "trusted source" classification system so that we can better separate the wheat from the chaff. A system which maintains anonymity of the source, but allows for a more objective and reliable measurement. Of course this system can fall prey to abuse and discreditation, but just like any world-recognized standard, (ISO for industry, DOC for Italian food provenance, or the venerable X, XX, or XXX for **** movie plot depth) the honor system among its member-users will serve as the basis.

Examples of Trusted Source Levels:

Level 5 -: this level of info is totally effing worthless, with all respect, "you know nothing Jon Snow". Use this when it occurs to you in the middle of the night that Porsche should build a 4-door electric sedan to compete with a Tesla... Never gonna happen, but go ahead and throw it out anyway. Just be honest, let us know that a Level 5 Source told you, we'll mail you some cheap whiskey as a thank you, and we will proceed to ignore you.

Level 4: info from a Sales Advisor: some of these guys are good, some don't even know or care to know the difference between voodoo blue and riviera, or between availability of deviated stitching on the underside of a passenger side LWB on a gt3 vs that on a gt3rs. Take what they say with a grain of salt.. If you get 50 of them saying the same thing then test the null hypothesis. But please, let us know your "inside source" is level 4 and we'll pat you on the back with the Internet equivalent of a withering look of compassion and move on to the next rumor.


Level 3: automotive writers connected to Porsche: these guys do have some good info as they get to see inside product before most. the Peter Stouts of the world, well-connected writers who speak with informed inferences as well as truly confidential information. A high degree of trust... You claim a level 3, we are listening.

Level 2: Porsche employees like Andreas Preuninger. Yes, he's been known to tell one rennlister one thing, then deny that very same thing during Rennsport speeches, but most of the time, people like AP have at least a direct connection to someone who is a decision-maker at Porsche. A level 2 connection could include official Porsche race drivers like Mark Webber.. If he tells you the steering feel on his 919 race car is better than the previous generation, then you come comfortably infer that your v6 panamera should have the same granularity. In other words, claim a Level 2 inside source, and we will dedicate a minimum of 50 pages to dissecting your rumor. Also in this level are ancient Rennlist contributors like Eduardo, or Mike in CA.. These guys are so old they have begun to see the future, you can trust that when they write overly confident and verbose tomes, that you can trust them. Please don't claim a level 2 source unless you are absolutely sure of the provenance.. Some guy living in a hut on a dot of an island in the underbelly of the world way out in the middle of the southern pacific, may not be be a true level II.. Just saying.

Level 1: the cleaning lady. Enough said. If you have a level 1 source, we already know not to even question your words.. You are a god by association, your words are law, and any dissent will be swiftly punished.

It seems that RL would be a great Test Group/sounding board for future ambitions of Porsche engineered machines instead of a small group of internal opinions/designers. After all, we are the brand. That being said, they have done a great job up to this point of "getting it right". Just seems, that with the emission changes and technological advancements coming at us faster everyday, that they would want/need/value Our input more than ever.

Speculation is the most interesting part of Rennlist. My colleagues in Germany have controlling interests and board control in a number of OEM parts suppliers to Porsche but I never ask them anything as it will spoil the fun...
