Why there were and are 2016 GT3 allocations
The thought occurred to me the other day in an AH HA moment- it's really quite a simple explanation.
When Porsche laid out the production plan for the RS I think they had every intention of building more than 2000 units, something approaching 2500 to 3000. But something went wrong with one or more of the suppliers of the unique parts for the RS and they can't meet the original production quota. So unexpectedly they are forced to reduce production due to just a few hard to source or make parts. So what to do with the parts sourced to build the higher volume? Well, 90% of the parts are shared with the GT3, so the simple solution is to build new 2016 GT3's to use these"excess" parts leftover from the RS not hitting the production forecast.
Pure speculation, but I'm sure if you could talk with production management at Porsche, something like this is close to the truth. This also explains why there are just a "few" 2016 GT3's- they were never planned for and unfortunately were really meant to be RS's. What a shame if true.

Although there's definitely validity to your hypothesis, I'm still leaning on the 2014 incident in that PAG had a general total number of GT3s in mind which was disrupted with the stop sale. This essentially pushed builds to the right and led to some 14s becoming 15s and 15s becoming 16s.

If history repeats itself Porsche tries hard to cover demand in each market.
Sometimes the US and UK are being left a little short because the demand is so big.
I still think it might be hard to produce enough gt4s to satisfy everybody. But, they will try! Same goes for the RS!

At this point I dont care the why, I just want one! I have been 1st in line at my dealer for the last 3 months and its been dry. They got 6 or so allocations before I became first, and now nothing.

Sound logic, and this would explain why PTS was unavailable even if one was willing to wait.
I'm wondering how the LWBs fit into this hypothesis. They are clearly a production choke point on all GT models. Thankfully the '16s had LWBs available despite the GT4 debacle.
A bit OT, does anyone have a good gauge for just how many '16s were granted to the US dealers? All of the speculation suggests 100-150. Maybe MJones can shed some light on it. Per his thread, one can estimate 75 have been delivered.

Ha, ha! You never buy into my theories, but I must remind you that I have been right sometimes like my conjecture that the 918 seats would become our sports buckets. Just say'in! (I would insert a smiley face here if not for my vow never to use emojies in my posts!).

yes there are many 2016 new car currently available.
if you are willing to pay a premium, any model is READILY available
at MRSP, not so much.
