My daughter comsidered becoming a primary care doctor. After she talked to a variety of healthcare professionals we sat down and discussed her options during her sophomore year in college and she decided to work towards becoming a Nurse Practioner instead. She obtained her BS in Interdicsiplinary Health and Nutrition and then obtained her BSN in an 11 month accelerated nursing program at Drexel in Philadelphia (that's where you cram a 24 month RN degree into an 11 month program). The hospital she works for will now pay for a big portion of her Masters degree. If she had not had some scholarships for athletics and academic the cost of her education through 5 years would have exceeded a $300k. I can't imagine the cost when you add 4 years of med school on top of that. Yikes!

i wish you many many years of good fortune.
i am not quite jaded yet. I still very much enjoy my clinical duties. interfacing with patients and overcoming challenges. just hitting my prime i think in terms of clinical and research productivity.
may be something like what you do as i near the end of my career and want to wind down/change pace.
can't really complain, as my income is sufficient to afford a nice DD and track toy. (not on most of RLers' level, just a modest F80 and E36)
started saving for a GT3 or perhaps GT3 RS depending on the market.

I often hear doctors complaining about various aspects of their profession (dealing with insurance companies, paperwork, overall workload, etc.). But remember that getting through residency almost guarantees an income level much higher than most of the population. And beyond the money, medicine is a truly honorable and meaningful profession, and the same can't be said about many others ways to make similar or greater income.
