I am building a garage in Redmond, WA. Open to the public, 24/7 access, 3k sf. clubhouse. Opening 2016. Been underground about the idea until about a week ago -- needed to close on the land.

That's crazy you're going to only have three cars in it

Look again. I think there are 4 cars in there! :big gulp:

Looks cool though. Wish we had something like that in my neck of the woods.

There is an enthusiast here in central Ohio that has executed this same idea, though on a smaller scale, with great success. I think his building only has 20-25 total spots available but each slot is huge, has an assigned outlet for battery tenders, etc. They also have an on-site lift that can be used at any time, small lounge with kitchen, TV, entertainment, wash bay at the facility, etc.

andy
Do you know how much he's charging for spaces?

I've been considering doing the same here in Charlotte. I don't know enough about the details or logistics of it to make it happen right now, but thats something a couple of us here have been talking about...

Yes, very similar concept. I have seen a lot of these smaller "co-op" style arrangements across the U.S., they are very popular, especially in the more dense city areas. Another popular design is condo garage units, or a garage away from home. To me this still misses the mark. Best comparative product is Collectors Car Garage in New York -- with a key distinction being you have access to your car 24/7 (they are valet only, during biz hours, multi-story building, etc).

I have designed the building and concept to germinate a "community" of like minded enthusiasts -- with emphasis on the social and concierge services for our members. Storage is just one of the amenities (150 spots, race trailer storage, detail bays, etc.).

One thing that is very important is being central to the population, Drivers Club is minutes away from our largest and most populated areas (Seattle/Bellevue/Kirkland/Issaquah/Redmond). Obviously the land was more expensive, but I believe location is imperative to ensure the ultimate success of the project and make it insular to economic forces. I normally build multi-family or office product, so I have experience in developing and managing lease properties -- this is more of a passion project. I also ran out of room in my garage and will be a customer at the facility. :-)

Sorry to fill up the page, just excited to offer something unique to the Porsche community and make it easier to buy or enjoy our cars. Expect to see some ads for DC in various club magazines in the Spring.

Yes, it's over here in New Albany.

It's really not bad all things considered. It was 125- $150 / month last time I checked. This facility isn't nearly what is proposed above as far as facility and amenities but for a smaller scale situation it works. Simple steel building but one located in a nice area so that crime isn't as big of a concern. Has security, checkered tile on the floors, electricity, etc but nothing over the top. Only drawback for me, and the reason I don't have at least one car there is no climate control in this facility. If it had heat in the winter I'd probably be there non stop during the winter months taking the GT3 apart just for the heck of it....the rent would probably be quite a bit more as well. Building is insulated but it's got to be a pain to heat.

While he does try to generate profit on this place, he built it for a place to store all of his toys and knew he had enough friends with storage issues for their toys that they'd be more than willing to participate. He would have built it just for his own toys even if nobody else wanted to pay to have their cars there. The two times I have asked about available spots I was pretty far down a wait list to get in there.

Anonymous, your elevation drawing appears to be one level and your photo looks to be below grade. Is entrance at lower grade or do you have an elevator, or???
elevation drawing is actually two levels. you can see stairs down into light-wells on the corners of the building. the ramp to enter the lower level is behind the building (so it is hidden and out of view)
