Apologies in advance for going off-topic...

Had to consult the map to confirm if I was right about seeing the back/rear side of the castle from Hohe Acht. Sure enough, it is the right angle.

For those of you who have been up to the castle or are familiar with it, what I'm curious about is the (ski) chair lift that I noticed close by on the back side of the castle. I imagined it might have been installed when the castle was rebuilt back in the late 80's. Perhaps it was used to carry stone and materials up to the castle. It looked to be long out of service and it didn't seem to go anywhere on the bottom end. I've not been able to find out anything about this on the web.

Is RCN the same as VLN? Or is it focused on less HP race cars?

As far as I know it was used for skiing - it was before my time but last time I looked you could see parts of the lift still there.

If you drive towards Koblenz (via Hohe Acht) from Nürburg there actually is a working ski lift on the left hand. I also think there is one in Wimbach which is just outside the track at Aremberg.

Oh - by the way: Google is your friend - but I believe you know that

RCN is a different series than VLN.

Big difference is how the race is executed:

VLN: 4 hours of sprint racing (some races longer)

RCN: Normally 15 laps where 9 laps are sprint laps, 3 laps are regularity laps, 2 laps are refueling laps and one cool down lap. Co-driver allowed in the car as passenger.

A lot of the classes in VLN overlap in RCN. I drive a class called V5 which is standard cars up to 3 liters. That class exists in VLN too.

I think the fastest cars in the RCN is 991 GT3 Cup.

In order to drive VLN you need to do some races in RCN or do a DPN Driver Training - this is after the accident in Flügplatz where one spectator was killed.

RCN is an excellent way to start racing on the Nordschleife since it is basically no bumper to bumper driving. The driver that crosses the finish line first might as well be the last in the race when the race is over.
Put another way: You have no clue if the car infront of you is actually before you so you drive against the clock.

The last RCN of the year, named Schwedencreutz, is a 4 hour race in the VLN-format.

It only looks😉
It was also V5 in the 2011 VLN season. My mates won the VLN overall championship so Inhad the benchmark in the team. One of them was Manuel Metzger who won the 24 hours of the Ring last year in the BF AMG GT3👍

I've met Manual, really nice guy!

He is one of the instructors at Scuderia Hanseat.

I don't remember the name of the guy who drove the Mercedes the last stint but he too was at the Scuderia after their win. I asked him about the overtake on the last lap and he said: "You might only get one chance in your life to win the N24 so you go for it."

Awesome, Manuel ist great, quick and very approachable. The guy who did that great overtaking manouvre was Maro Engel who just got his first DTM victory last weekend in Moscow!

On Saturday it is RCN 6.

So the program is:

Friday: Touristdriving
Saturday: RCN6
Saturday: Touristdriving
Sunday: Touristdriving

Wife is driving the RS this weekend I'll go in the 997 GT3.

Video from RCN5:

It looks like Im in it at 4 short moments. # of them is easy to see: A very slow BMW Z4 with puncture on the right hand side of the track

The inside parts of the video is from the E46 M3 I co-piloted in the RCN2 in which we got both a class win and a group win.

In RCN5 this M3 ended up on a third place totally.
Not sure exactly how that happened but I guess that the rain had something to do with it.
If you where lucky you where in the pits and could just wait out the rain to get fast laps in the semi-dry.

Some offroading in Flügplatz - not one of my proudest moments, a car parked in Schwedencreutz and some yellow flags.
Following a nice Schirmer BMW.

Considering all the traffic, yellow flag etc the lap was still rather OK time wise.

Thanks Peter,

New tires, and maybe a fresh alignment this weekend.

I hope I'll get some nice clean laps to see the difference: Actually one of my rear tires came with the car...
