The R doesn't make sense to me. If you want an engaging 6-sp manual 911 for the road, just get a 997 C2S or 997 GTS. Plenty of power for the road without the need for high revs, good steering feel, dynamics closer to a classic 911, and costs 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the R.
This car will be cheaper than those and have a much lighter footprint than everything but the boxster spyder.

Quite underwhelming... I think they lost an occasion to do something really special, I expected less weight (not difficult to get), a more characterized exterior (not difficult to do), a revised and lightweight interior with a retrò design (no huge center console, dedicated door panels, instrument dials etc) which didn't require so much effort (as Ferrari usually does for their limited editions like 599 gto, speciale, tdf etc etc).
I mean...it's a very good product, the underlying concept makes sense, how many people buy GT3/RS just for the hardcore sensations and that bit of drama that the rest of 911's completely lack...and they are not going to track them? This would be the right answer from the factory, could be a standard proposal by Porsche...it should be intended as a sort of super-GTS and this R edition looks like that.
On the other hand I say that from a so much awaited, hidden, rumoured as ultra limited...everybody expected more...lacks completeley those unique touches under and over the skin to make it feel something really special

Assuming this is the R, i'm surprised they kept the .1 taillights. For me the best part is if it's a six speed, then the R&D for the manual .2GT3 are taken care of for the most part.

The only way I would buy this car is if I had no intention of tracking. Then it would be a great "street car" to own. However, when comparing to the GT3/RS with their all around performance, it comes up short. Just add some stripes or decals to either GT car and you have the best of both worlds. Best, Allan

Drifting
The 981 uses a Getrag and I would assume that's what the R uses too.

Hopefully this thing doesn't have a limp clutch pedal like the GT4.
