TRAKCAR does ED

You get used to the car wanting to go and holding rev's etc, its better than a slush box which always seem to want to be in high gears.
My M5 was like that, one mode would have it eager to change up and another mode kept i hanging on gears and rpm. I used to use most modes including manual depending on how/where I was driving - i.e if coming up to favorite/twisty section of road or a possible over take opportunity I would chose a mode in advance in preparedness... one mode doesn't fit all but it did become almost second nature!
In the coming months you will get used to it hanging on rev's etc and swap modes to suit driving/roads/track etc plus manual will become more intuitive. Its all about the learning.
Tip... Remember you can just bang paddles to take over control to short shift and then let the car go back into auto where the car seems more intuitive with your driving, balance and mechanical sympathy etc.

Hi Peter,
I just read through all the pages... all i can say is woow! What a "holiday"!
If you cross the GER/AT boarder on 2nd or 3rd Oct:
You could pass me a PM with your number and i will SMS you my exact address + call you; for welcoming you in Austria.
I´m living next to the GER-boarder. So if you travel the Autobahn "A3" via Passau/GER to Spielberg/AT - my home, as also the company, is just 2km from the Autobahn-exit on your route. around 30km after the GER/AT boarder.
I would love to welcome you and your wife for a coffee doesn´t matter which time of the day. Even if it is just a 10min one.
bests,
Klemens

It was great to meet Peter briefly at the Ring!
Fantastic color, I don't understand how none of my friends have opted for the violet color with their RS orders! It will be the trademark color for this model.
Btw. one of my friend has driven already 12k kilometres with his 991 RS, that's a lot of smiles on Autobahns, Alpine routes and different tracks...
Here's my little film from the same day I met Peter, 7:15 with my old 996:
It was so nice to see my old friend Nur93 moving to dark side (to Porsche) with the GT4 finally...

Living vicariously through you Peter. Great thread. Thanks for taking the time to create/post this thread. Props to Mrs. Trakcar. I'll definitely be showing a vid or two to the wifey for her reference on passenger etiquette.
Stay safe & congrats on the new toy!

Very nice driving Kai, 7:15 BTG is moving. Looks like you could have shaved a few more seconds off if you didn't run into traffic at the Stefan-Bellof Ese. And you correction at the double apex right hander of Pflanzgarten 1 was great, that can be a ballsy corner.
Peter, see you at Spa Thursday. Do you know if there are any driving spots still available? I could always rent a car from RSR Spa.
This track stuff is a sick addiction.

Thanks Food Angel!
That's Kobalt's .1 997 GT3. His 991RS is arriving soon, I can only imagine the lap times he will pull out of it at the Ring.
About a 1000 miles on the car now, so I can finally exceed 5000RPM according to the guy that gave me the key ;-)
Car changes;
-3F
-2.5R camber
Raised the front and rear one turn because I was just bottoming out too much and added some wing in the rear. Not that I was really going fast enough but it wasn't like I was hurting straight line speed. Car feels great with both bars in the middle it pushes a bit on tight corners but the Voodoo LSD just turns the car.
We survived the Ring, what a beast, wet area's, blinding light in your eyes, I thought I understood but its so much more difficult and dangerous.
I got close to understanding the whole track but not fast yet after 20 or so laps.. I could try to be fast in another 10-20 laps I think because of the car allowing me to go faster quicker. I.E. it saves your ***. SC came one once, didn't really need it or anything but you really feel it.
What they say; You need 50+ laps to be fast is about right. Spa should be easier in that respect.
I cant even begin to think about driving it in the dark and rain, I did 2 hours of that a couple of years ago at Sebring and that was impossible. This is way way way more impossible... I don't know how they do it in the 24H races...
Even now in 5 days I have seen more crashes than in 10 years of DE. We lost an hour today when one car leaked and a little rental hit the wall and it was rumored a Ferrari was totaled.
Anyway, now that we have first world internet I can post a few pics and links hopefully.
Harry's lap timer just crashed after this mornings run, so I cant merge / export the laps. Just waiting for VBox to send me their new HD version. Its antique but it works and its simple.
I got 2 OK laps on my phone of 8:07, one lap with Mrs TRAKCAR on board doing a 8:12 (I was offline a bit once and after I fixed it she just sat there shaking her head. I asked her later wassup shaking your head? She says "You were in the wrong place" ), one lap of the morning sunrise of the the Ring (Sounds weird but its beautiful) and a video of the Touristfahren madness! If I can get them off my phone I'll post.
Just arrived at Spa, haven't seen the track yet, but very excited about the next 2 days.
Great meeting everyone there! Bye bye Ring, see you in 4 weeks

peter - thank you for the detailed report.
great to see that you are having fun and learning an unfamiliar (and lengthy) track/s, so i suppose having the car in auto allows you to focus on the lines and have a bit of headroom in reserve. i hear you about having some mechanical sympathy when driving a manual, being able to shift early to save some strain on the drivetrain, whereas these new autos seem to be programmed for maximum impact and fanfare.
like shifting in a cup.....
the weight is an issue, and you will feel it beyond the threshold of the electronics.
you feel any aero yet?
anyway, yeah you will know for certain when you bring it home to your reference track ( sebring) where you know every nook and cranny.
hope you enjoyed the steak on the stone! was it good?

Maybe in 4 weeks.
Tomorrow we start with a more normal track, lets see...
