Gear Ratio

Now that I've gotten some good seat time, I find myself wondering why Porsche didn't go with a slightly lower final gear ratio? Having a 9000 rpm redline certainly makes it very feasible.
Maybe the PDK couldn't take the stress that this would add to the drivetrain? Maybe it's so Porsche can make the necessary fuel economy standards? Maybe it's all of the above?
That said, has anyone considered switching to a lower final gear ratio? Is one even available?

Final drive is for fuel economy. This is a street car. At least on the U.S. Models, the gas guzzler tax does increase as the economy gets worst.
Wonder if GT gears or somebody makes a different gear for 7th?

4.19 It has bigger rear tires, and someone here actually figured out the actual final drive ratio, when wheels taken into account, is slightly taller than GT3. Imagine a top speed of say 180, and a nice, track orientated final drive ratio.

From what I understand, it is inside the PDK. Not many places to have PDK taken apart. I am sure it will soon be done by the various race shops running PDK cars on the track though
