Who has a 458 alongside their 991 GT3?
just curious for some real world comparisons from owners. I am very familiar with Ferrari but actually have limited time in the 458. Have owned a Scud, and my father is into the V12's (599 & F12).
I assume that performance wise, the 991 has a slight edge over the 458? Also assume the 458 is more raw and visceral?
I am sure variations of this question have been asked before, but I want to hear from those who own both.
Thanks!

Well this is indeed the comparison that seems to be made... I have never owned a Ferrari, but I have driven them... and some will disagree, but I actually think the 991 gt3 is the first Porsche that I have driven that replicates a bit of the Ferrari feel, certainly in a different, Porsche kind of way... my anecdotal perspective but I'm not an owner. Agree it will be interesting to hear from those that drive both every week.

Well you'll get a wide range of opinions as it comes down to personal preference....
Don't get me wrong the GT3 is an awesome car, especially for the money....but there's still no question on what keys I'm grabbing on a beautiful summer day.....IMO there's absolutely no better sound than a Ferrari V8 at 8-9K rpm's.....

Drove a 458 and GT3 back to back on a track. Ferrari sounds better and makes more torque. GT3 was easier to drive fast around the track. For the street I would choose 458. For the track GT3.

I own both. The GT3 does not feel like the 458. GT3 feels like a gritty higher effort 911.
IMO the 458 is not comparable to the GT3 at all. The 458 is more of an experience. Looks, sound, acceleration, handling. And, about twice the money. Subjectively the 458 feels faster, looks more exotic and suspension and steering are different. 911 interior is not close to Ferrari interior. All just my opinion.
GT3 is a great car, I really like mine but it's a 911 not a Ferrari.

I think that Joe summed it up about right. (love your license plate, by the way. that's hilarious)
if someone gave me the option, i would take the 458 keys, of course, its a more fun car on the street and a GT3 costs half as much.
but i will say that most magazine articles/road tests/analysts seem to pick the 458 as the natural comparative point to the new GT3, which I find interesting.
still think that the pdk-sport transmission and 9k redline make this Porsche feel more "Ferrari-like" to drive than previous Porsches. A Ferrari it is not, I very much realize.

What I love about the GT3 is I can just get in it and go when and where and its not so much of an event. The 458 is a "look at me" car no doubt with performance to match. I also own a Ferrari FF and use that as my daily driver so I would call myself an F fan boy I will say this, money/price doesnt necessarily make a car better.

The 458 is better. But that does not stop me from liking the Gt3. They are different cars and some one with the capacity/space to own two sports cars should have one of each.
Any performance advantage the gt3 has over the 458 is eliminated once you put semi-slicks on a 458.
The GT3 is the most interesting 911 by far. It is clinically fast and a great performer. My favourite part about it is that it is still at the end of the day just a very potent 911 and avoids the attention that ferrari attracts. If I were forced to get rid of one of them it might just be the 458, because the Gt3 can be lived with on a daily basis (which is of importance to me).

had a 2011 458 and a 997.2 gt3 at the time.
Ferrari was only fun when pushing the car hard, and we all know the risks of that on the street.
I grabbed the Porsche keys more often, and in time sold the Fcar.

That's true. I would drive the GT3 anywhere. The 458 is always an occasion. I find my black 458 draws less attention than my red F430.
