997 GT3 RS or a 991 GT3
I am working with Porsche Houston North to find a 2015 GT3 build slot or inbound car from PCNA. Clearly this is an amazing vehicle and in high demand.
During the search I came across and had the pleasure of test driving a 2010 GT3 RS with less than 10 k miles. Wow. Awesome. Granted I am new to Porsche as of Fall 2013 when I purchased a 2014 Cayman S manual. The biggest trade off of the 991 is giving up the manual for speed and technology.
Those on this group have already made the choice and I was hoping to solicit your opinions as to why you personally chose the 991 GT3 and if you considered the 997 RS what considerations were you factoring to ultimately decide?
Probably no bad choices with either, so thank you in advance for your perspective.

If you go for GT3, don't worry about dealer, start calling around NOW and find a dealer (anywhere in US) who has one from a cancelled order--there are a handful out there. Ordering is over.
As to your RS question, I'll leave that to the 997 experts.

Well, I had a 2011 997 GT3, but not RS. I sold that car pretty much the same that I bought it for, 3k miles and almost 2 yrs later. Says something about the desirability of the 997 GT3. I was on the fence for some time about whether the logical upgrade for me was a 997 RS or a 991 GT3. Some days I wake up and not sure I made the right choice, but pretty sure I did based on all the feedback, reviews, etc. on the newer car. It seems like a STEP change. It is often compared more to the 4.0. I am expecting it to be not quite as raw as the 997 RS, but given prices for the 997 RS, which are very comparable to the new 991 GT3 if you are looking at pristine examples, I decided to go with 991 GT3.

I own both
May change my mind after more time in the 991 GT3....but for now I prefer the 997 GT3 RS 3.8 in every dimension.....throttle response, engine sound, steering feel, looks, overall driving experience/excitement.
The good news is that both cars are utterly fantastic, can't go wrong with either one.

If you plan on DD either car at all, then the choice is pretty easy. 991 GT3

the tie breaker for me was price... if you want a truly unmolested low mileage RS, its in the 150-175k range. (owners of those cars might even say more, but I'm not so sure). But the point is, at that price range, there are an awful lot of cars out there, including a brand new 991 GT3, for less... so you have to REALLY want the 3.8RS at those prices...

Thanks
Thank you for the comments. I am signed up for a DD at the end of January and either would be great. 997 RS more engaging, "mechanical", and the 991 more sophisticated and faster. Sounds like for the 991 I need to call dealers direct if no quick results from the dealer.
Again, I appreciate it.

I've owned a 997.2 GT3 RS and now I have a 991 GT3. In my opinion, the 991 if far superior of a car than the 997. The 991 feels and drives a race car while the 997 felt like a lightened 911 with. A huge wing. This is just my opinion and in sure others will feel 180 degrees from what I think. Lastly, the 991 is completely engaging. The lack of a stick shift is ridiculous to think it is less engaging. I actually think the 991 is more engaging l than the 997.
