997 GT3 RS or a 991 GT3
#46
I just sold my rs and bought a 991 gt3. To me it was a stick vs pdk.
After about an hour of driving a stick in LA i get over it. Even driving to and from canyons.
If you start tracking the rs might as well build a track car for cheaper ... then you get the porsche track sickness and need a cup to go faster. It's a slippery slope.
Love the 991 gt3 sofar.

I own both
May change my mind after more time in the 991 GT3....but for now I prefer the 997 GT3 RS 3.8 in every dimension.....throttle response, engine sound, steering feel, looks, overall driving experience/excitement.
The good news is that both cars are utterly fantastic, can't go wrong with either one.

Brake Dust, doesn't it depend how it's equipped. I thought that I saw a pccb and LWB equipped 991 gt3 was similar weight to 997.2 gt3... Doesn't change your point though

I really like the Birch Green of your turbo. I have only ever seen that colour on one 911 and it is stunning! Very nice!

Found one
While my preference was Black, this 991 in white is available in January. It has most of the upgrades I wanted other than the PDLS and PCCB. Would I really miss these two upgrades if used as daily driver and DD. I probably won't do club racing.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks again everyone for the great input. Half the fun was seeing the pics of your cars. Truly a world class set of pictures.

Take a deep breath and don't let dealers scare you into the 'it's going to sell today' stuff. If it does, then it wasn't meant to be. YOU need to figure out what are your MUST haves, and stick to that.

Having "driven" both is not like owning both. Not saying you can't get a great feel for a car after driving it, but owning it and driving it for thousands of miles gives you a much better sense of each car.
Like I said...this is MY OPINION.
1. The 991 has a much better look. Everything seems to flow. The metal rear wing uprights on the 997 are not as ascetically pleasing to the lines of the car as the 991.
2. The 997 lacks that extra muscular look of the 991.
3. Starting the 991 is like starting a race car. The ignition is more like "flick the switch and ignite the beast".
4. The clatter of the clutch sounds like a race car.
4. The extra rpm's required to get the car moving from a standing start feels like it is a manual without the need to use your left foot.
5. LIGHNING quick shifting...love the technology. Putting it in manual and using the stick as a sequential shifter it is like a cup car shifting.
6. All wheel steering. So precise and exact...almost seems unreal.
Putting all these together FOR ME makes is much more engaging. The 991 is quieter and less harsh of a ride and not manual. To me, all the other factors makes this so much more engaging starting from the look...damn sexy!
Do I miss my 997.2 GT3RS...NOT AT ALL. Would I miss my 991..YES!!!! To me, the 991 GT3 is the best Porsches I have EVER owned. I currently have a Panamera 4S and a Cayenne Turbo. Every car has its "special" points...but the 991 GT3 is an amazing daily driver, canyon run car and track car. It is everything and more in a car I could have expected.
On last thing...my 991 GT3 will kick the crap out of my old 997.2 GT3RS
What Porsche created is an epic car....a legend.

Thanks. Great review and good to hear from actual owners. The biggest myth is lack of stick shift equates to not so engaging , there are multiple factors that make a car visceral performer. Sound , feel , shift feedback , throttle response ,acceleration, looks , how fast it revs ... So many things can compensate for lack of manual trans. Lambo , ferrari now porsche is doing it. They can all be lots of fun without manual.
I went from a 997.2 gt3 to 430 6 speed. Then to scud , the scud was night and day compared to 430 6 speed. Just no comparision, its the overall exceution that delivers the thrills.
