That's for sure. Not unless you have a spring compressor and some time!

Just out of curiosity, but does the car need a new front end alignment after removing the strut ?

Easy peasy

Glad it was on their dime and not yours.

Dealer called. They lubricated spring and heim joint. According to them, its now quiet. I pick it up in the morning.

I love it when a thread works out!

I was wondering the same thing?
Also, kind of strange that there are several cars out there that are brand new and needed lubrication of the ball joints already?

You don't need alignment if you're careful and line/mark everything up the way it was...
Here's a couple of pics courtesy of Elephant racing :

Thanks for the heads up Sean!
I probably would not have thought about it until you mentioned it! I'm glad I was going in today for oil change. Strange, I never did get the oil change as they have no filters... How crazy is that?

Yeah, mine doesn't make any sound at all. Let us know what the solution is.

The solution is listed above in my post. See work sheet.

Got my car back this morning. Bad noises gone. Good noises still here! Happy camper and thanks for the guidance on the heim joints. They lubed the spring perches and heim joints and the car is dramatically better.

Also... Talked to Jack Swint - Hennessy's shop foreman and the guy who worked on my car. He is apparently one of the most senior Porsche Master Techs in the country.

At any rate, he said Porsche is conservative on lubing of the Heim joints because lubing them can lead to premature wear. I found that interesting and just another piece of the puzzle. Then he said "Remember - this is a track car. It's supposed to make noises!"

Glad the sound is gone and we have a good explanation. I think Mr. Swint is right and explains the variability of the problem. High performance equipment often has a narrow window of "just right" adjustment. Too little lube is bad but so is too much. Overfilling the oil in these cars is just as bad as underfilling as another example.
