Default To lift or not to lift

i know this has been discussed in part in other threads but since I may need to make a final decision in the next week or so i would like the final consenses on this. I an trying to keep the final price down so I am not going with extra leather- carbon fiber, the PCCB, etc. The car will be an occassional drive to work, weekend fun car and occassion track day car. Thanks for your insights.

I think the better question is...to scrape or not to scrape...

For what its worth, my order of priorities was as follows:

1) PTS (fail)
2) Lift
3) sport buckets
4) PCCB
5) PDLS

I was never a lift fan. I would rather buy $250 front spoilers than spend $4k on a lift...

Until I had my RS and 458 with a lift. My driveway is not steep, but the RS would touch everytime if I didn't have the lift up. 458 not so much, but helpful on large speed bumps.

The 991 GT3 is low right from the factory. The lift is excellent IF you remember to use it. Also, the front splitter is intimately attached to the front bumper in the 991 GT3 and there is a higher chance that when you bang the splitter, the bumper gets the force too.

Just my opinion. I am now a lift guy when I previously was not.

If money is no object, get it. If you are trying to keep the price low, don't. Half of the people will agree with either decision you make.

I think it's a very useful option. I use the lift option everytime I drive my car. I live in a major uban city. The question I have for those who insist it's not necessary is this: what is the downside of having the lift just in case you come across an unexpected speedbump or uphill/downhill driveway?

Price?.....this is a much more practical option than all the cosmetic options that many spend their money on (IMO).

Weight of the system?.......are you such a good driver on a racetrack that your laptimes will be significantly affected by having this option?

by the way, if I thought I could POSSIBLY get away with not having it, I wouldn't have ordered...its a lot of money, the front lips are cheap, etc. I just don't believe it is in anyway optional... I think the difference with 997 gt3 is now the front of the car underside is at risk, not just the front lip

Agree with almost everything posted so far. The added weight of 6KG is inconsequential. Your odds of being stuck in a difficult situation or of damaging the $6K front bumper are lessened. The ONLY downside is the price.

Unless you just can't afford it, get the lift.

How much lower is the GT3 than a 991 C2S with PASM Sport Suspension (or SPASM)?

Anyone know?

It is a MUST HAVE option, unless you trailer the car to the track or never encounter inclined driveways and speed bumps. Or, unless you like replacing the front spoiler between every gas fill up.

I owned a 2008 GT3 and sold it, partly because it was depressing every time I scraped bottom.

This one is easy IMO.

Thanks guys..I think you have sold me. I am in with the lift. Even my 981 BS with PASM occassionally scraps and its very annoying at the least.

How often are the non lift guys hitting their front spoiler? I am in the non lift camp, but a do worry... I guess the piece of mind would have been nice.

There is a GT3 w/o lift for sale and I know of two potential buyers that did not buy it just cause it does not have lift.

With a normal Carrera as the baseline, the S is 10mm lower, a Carrera with SPASM is 20mm lower, and the GT3 is 30mm lower. But those are suspension measurements and don't tell the whole story since the nose and spoiler on the 991 GT3 are much lower and deeper than on the regular 991. Because of that the GT3 is more susceptible to clearance problems than the 10mm suspension difference between it and a SPASM Carrera would suggest.
