Default ran 11.85 @ 120 mph in 1/4 mile, so yes, car is fast but not THAT fast.

just wanted to report a quick trip to the drag strip today, last track event of the year here in Northern Alberta.

temp was about 17.5 deg c, altitude is i believe around 2200. humidity 30%. and i was running with stock air pressures ~ 33 psi rear with ESC and TC left ON. may try turning those off next time.

overall not that impressed with the cars straight line performance. at least at the drag strip, on the street the car is down right savage. and of course its not a drag car, but then again, what stock car is?

it seemed like several people were getting less than optimal times; a Lamborghini aventador also ran only an 11.8!! and they should be in the low/mid 10's. lightly modded cadillac cts-v's running mid 12's @115-116 mph... again, all unusually slow trap speeds. i wouldnt have minded the higher ET as much as my low trap speed of 120 mph. especially since it was tested at 11.2 @ 126 mph by one of the mags so thats movin'.

what was sweet is the launch control. works flawlessly every time and hooks up and launches very hard, with seemingly little to no wheelspin. effortless to engage too; floor brake, floor gas, release brake, done. no stupid sequence of ***** to turn/buttons to press like in the ///M cars and ///AMG's

This doesn't sound quite right. Videos I have seen seem to show some wheel spin, certainly not minimal to none. Wonder if TC off launches Harder?

What was your 60' time?

NHRA coversion for sea level performance puts that at an 11.6. Car and Driver managed an 11.2 back in 2013.

60' times were 1.80 and one was i believe 1.83.... around there.

like i said, i had TC and esc left on, so this may have handicapped the car. my f10 and e60 m5's were like completely different animals with everything(DSC, traction control) turned OFF. they held back a lot of power. but of course with them off, you need to be prepared to modulate the throttle. lol

but with the m5's it may be different. for example DSC has to be completely off to enable launch control, then the car just takes over and you dont have to shift.

in the gt3, you can engage launch control in either manual or auto mode, but with launch control/manual , you will have to shift gears yourself, it will not upshift, just buzz at 9000 rpm all day. so the launch control with the gt3 is less of a "sequence", and more of just what its called - a "launch control" only function.

Saw a few of your runs during the breaks between running the road course with Track Junkies right next to the drag strip.

Car looks great. I was really hoping you were going to come over and run the road course as there was a 997.1 GT3 and 997.2 RS also running laps.

What I couldn't believe was how fast the snowmobile guys were!

GT3s, Aventadors, snowmobiles, drag strips, and road courses......all on the same day in the same place. It must be Alberta!

Several owners have run 11.2@125 in their new GT3's which matches up even with the magazines. Your ET and mph are pretty off as were many others according to your post. An Aventador is not an 11.8 car and neither is a new GT3. Certified tracks aren't usually off so that would mean driver error unless for some reason the track equipment was off.

Here's another 991GT3 owner who ran an 11.2 recently

The following is the stats/test results from Car and Driver (11/2013; page:50; the GT3 was tested in Germany):
Zero to:
30 mph 1.2 s
40 mph 1.7 s
60 mph 3.0 s
80 mph 4.8 s
100 mph 7.1 s
120 mph 10.1 s
130 mph 12.0 s
140 mph 14.3 s
150 mph 17.1 s

1/4 Mile 11.2 @ 126 mph
rolling start 3.9 (5-60 mph)

Skidpad (200 FT diameter): 1.12 g
Breaking (70-0 mph) 135 (record for Car and driver, IIRC)

991 GT3 v R35 GTR 1/4 mile - YouTube
interesting. well, maybe its me.. or our track. it is said to be a slow track.

i noticed he did a burn out in the video. was he using stock tires or drag tires? that may have made a difference?

Well - if you are telling me the GT3 is not that FAST thru 1/4 mile at 11.8 I would agree. But when you tell me the Aventador tied the GT3 in the quarter mile than I would say I am impressed.

I double checked to make sure I was not on the 991 Forum when I read those figures...

I expected closer to 11.5, and with a higher trap speed.

Perhaps your engine is still tight and needs to be broken in a bit more?

Cheers/B

Well - I just read the Aventador has been tested 0 -60 mph at 2.8-.9 sec and 1/4 mile in 10.7-.8. If it is running at the drag strip with equal times to the GT3 that is enough to keep me satisfied. Plus - since when can a GT3 run with the big boys in sprints - that is what has surprised me with the 991 GT3.

For this one one I will just point the finger at environmental conditions. As we all know so many data points we can measure that can effect the overall Quarter times and speeds. Heck, even the Lambo didn't do too great in comparison to what these cars can really do on a good day.

But I just love the Title of this post. Just go back 20 - 30 years and see what any car could do! Personally then I would still take a Buick GN or GNX!

Quick Reply: ran 11.85 @ 120 mph in 1/4 mile, so yes, car is fast but not THAT fast.
