Possibly my last laps at Road Atlanta in my current/former GT3. It was fun while it lasted...

Couple of videos to add. Still getting used to the car and working on setup. Car is bonkers fast and just needs a driver to match.

Thunderhill 5 Mile. Did a PB of 3:08. Prior PB in the GT4 was 3:14

Sonoma Raceway. Despite being rusty here and blowing a few corners, managed a new PB of 1:47. Prior PB in the GT4/997.2 GT3 was 1:51

Great driving Chris! Really digging the smooth hands and small adjustments.

Chuckwalla CCW last weekend in the RS. Very fun in that direction. Too much over braking and slow hitting the gas, but still plenty fun. Left 2-3 seconds out there.

Default Hero 5 Spot Metering

FYI to those track enthusiasts who use a video camera mounted inside your car carefully consider this problem with the GoPro Hero 5 Black. The spot metering setting, essential in avoiding overexposure of anything outside the car, can't be set permanently. Every time you start the camera you need to tap and hold the spot on the screen and then tap the check mark in the right lower corner. I repeat, this setting can't be permanently set. With the camera mounted on a roll cage behind you this is a major problem, requiring you dismount the camera and reset the spot metering every time. The Capture App or voice control also can't be used to set spot metering, making this a PITA Not sure why they went this way with the 5, but it makes the Hero 3+ or 4 a much better camera for this application. BTW, anyone interested in a slightly used Hero 5 Black?

Thanks for the heads up Dave. A rare example of the latest in tech not being the best!

Hopefully a software/firmware update will fix this issue. BTW Macca, an update on the Ryobi compressor: I love it, works great!

Night session at Sebring.
6 day old front tires, lots of under steer, you see surprisingly little of it in the video.

Awesome Peter. 2s off your PB in the dark on old front tyres! Impressive...

None of our tracks are lit or licensed for night time use. I think Yas Marina (UAE) at night in a GT3 is now definitely on my bucket list!

Here's a lap of mine from a few weeks back at a very small 1960s race circuit down near Wellington New Zealand called Manfield. PB was 1.14.07 but this single lap gives you an idea. I did 25 laps with a variance of 0,85s so happy with the consistency but there is still one corner I found out later my line is all wrong and a couple of places I can pick up a tenth if I can dial up a bit of understeer. I think there is a high 13 in there next time. Its my third visit to that track in the GT3.

One of our best professional drivers downunder ran the same track a few years back during an international GT3 Cup race (full slicks) and Ive added that too. There is a 5.5s delta in our laps, I assume his slicks and -250kg weight will make up a fair chunk of that, but it shows how its should be done and by comparison is far busier at the wheel. I obviously need to try harder LOL!

P.S. Excuse the sound as Im getting static in my mic and havent figured that out yet (might need to replace it).

This laps is 1.14.24 in 2013 991 GT3 with MPSC2 and DMS headers. Rank amateur driver :-)

Craig Biard race champion GT3 Cup series 1.08.27 (2009 997 GT3 Cup car).

This past weekend we had a track night at Yas Marina. The results were quite surprising, and here is why.

We came up with a new format called "Super Pole" essentially you have two flying laps to get your best time at the last hour of the day. Before that, there is open practice which is just free lapping. As you will notice in the video that we are on a formation lap, half way through the lap we crack open the can, and that's because the official timing trigger is located on the support Start/Finish straight and not the Formula 1 Start/Finish where we would come out of the pits, as that gave us roughly half a lap to warm up and half a lap to cool down at the end instead of going all the way around and waste time.

So here is the interesting part.

The gentleman with the fastest time of the night is a Champion in a few series and raced a few seasons of GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. He was driving a 996 GT2, and the only thing stock about it was the shape. This thing had reworked everything, from breaks to suspension, to diff, even the turbos whistling at idle like Merry Poppins. Conservatively, it has no less than 600hp. His best time of the night was a 2:31.100. That's a blistering time with the kink and the fastest time we have seen. Ever!

The gentleman behind him was driving a 918 Spyder and has a few seasons experience in GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. His best time was a 2:32.154. Also a very fast time.

I came in behind them with a 2:34.579 just edging out the 991 RS in the video you see where his fastest time was 2:34.615. He is also a multiple Nurburgring 24hr racer. The rest were 991 RS', 991 GT3s and other Porsches. I was genuinely surprised at the results as I didn't think it was possible to for a GT3 to beat out a bunch of RS'. All cars except that 996 GT2 were stock.

It was a blast. Interesting format to say the least. It was an all out to see who was the fastest. No excuses, just get it done!

+ Good to see you wearing a Hans. I see you went for the air-con off button for the win ;-). What is the Vmax on the fastest straight there? Ive never seen a more picture perfect track - so smooth!
