Mike?
That's right, doubleurx; the wording is no longer that the warranty will be voided, but rather that it can be voided if proper maintenance isn't followed. As Sam points out there is a shorter service interval for oil changes at 6K miles. There is also a requirement for replacing CL's and rear wheel hubs/bearings after 6K miles of race circuit driving, and front wheel hubs/bearing after 12K miles of racing. Additionally, there is a checklist of items that should be inspected before each session; CL locking pin, fluids, brake lines, suspension settings, etc.

I can't see the oil filter, anyone spot it?

edit: I think I see it. Is it ahead of the oil cooler?

Does the pan/block have a drain plug? I saw the hex on the oil tank.

Sure. Like the 997 gt3 youll have 1 plug at the pan and 1 at the sump.

I only mention the hex at the sump because its different from the 997.

Jason,
thank you very much for this resource material!
BTW, I just ordered some oil filters. The retail is $46@, and bought them at $24@...still pretty pricey compared to the 997 filter price...

BMW changes the engine oil and the manual transmission fluid at 1,200 miles on the last (E92) V8 M3. They also switched to a 10W-60 oil from 0W-40 as there were issues on cars that followed the 15k oil change protocol.

Personally I would change oil at 1k and then every 5k or annually, whichever comes first. Have been very successful in limiting engine issues with that interval on all my cars.

Yeah, this was back in 2006 when I had my last BMW new. They told me 10k miles, I stated that was ridiculous on an engine that was just broken in. They changed it at 2500 miles. I guess they figured that maintenance was built into the price of the car and the less work the better. That way when the warrantee was up the engine would crater and you could by a new car. JK
