Glad I added an 'IIRCC' and "only add half as much"; sorry ^.

Your dealer's math must be off. If you add .5 quart like he says, you'll likely be above the Max line and into the overfill bar. I would add .2 of a quart and then after driving the car and getting the engine up to temperature, see where you are.
I have previously heard about optimal being 1 bar below max. as well. I was told it is recommended especially when tracking and/or any extended high rpm use. I would assume due to expansion, correct?

^^^Yes, allows enough room for fluid expansion at high temps without creating an overfill situation...

Yeah, I agree with 911rox. It may be even more important in this engine since each bar on the gauge is only 200ml and at 1 bar low, you're only 400ml from overfill so there's not much margin for error. Safer to recommend one bar low. FWIW, my 9A1 Carrera S engine did not have a recommended optimum level; just don't add oil above MAX.....

FYI, I know I discussed it in another thread but this thread is more appropriate - the next day after I posted the pic of my oil level being "overfilled" although I never added any oil - it went down two bars to "ok." Weird.

That is quite a disparity. I am familiar with this on my 997.2 gt3, but sway was 1 bar, not three. From 1 over to 2 below max is quite a difference. I understand it's 2/3rds of a quart or less, but three "bars" difference in 24 hrs is a lot. I assume you checked on the same surface with similar operating temps? As stated, always re-check before adding; or removing.

Yeah - I never added any oil since getting the car - I think a weird sensor issue but now seems all good. Will keep an eye on it.

There is a new manual correction/TSB from Porsche related to this;

1701 Measuring engine-oil level on GT3 vehicles: "Minimum" display in the PIWIS Tester is currently slightly different (15/14)

--- And here are the other TSBs; (I don't see anything in the Porsche system about replacement oil/water heat exchanger bolts...)

1701 Allocation of approved engine oils (09/14)

0335 Vehicle Analysis Log: Evaluating overspeed events (12/13)

1975 Replacement of cap for coolant system (98/13)

2409 Fault code P0190 entered in DME control unit - pressure sensor connector available individually (103/13)

5759 Complaint "Cover for door arrester missing" - during vehicle delivery or handover to customer (16/14)

9005 Incorrect speed displayed in the instrument cluster after performing "Vehicle handover" (84/13)

9175-01ParkAssist sensor replaced without authorisation (89/13)

^ read this today. Thanks Jason.

After all is said and done, Mike and I are planning on the
1st proper RL DIY oil change thread for the new GT3. The sooner the better.

I look forward to seeing it! When yours is returned, ask the service advisor to leave a copy/printout of "170155 Changing engine oil and oil filter" on the passenger seat.

FWIW, Suncoast sells oil change kits http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...GT3MAINTENANCE that include the filter, o-rings, crush washers, and drain plugs. They're the only place I've found that stocks all the parts.
