Frankly, as a long time customer too, I expect Mike Valentine will have to add some new & innovative capabilities to his V1 unit in order to keep up with the competition! Regardless, my biggest concern in California today is Laser, which is now the 'weapon' of choice used by local & state LE authorities. State law prevents jamming devices here in CA : 'No vehicle shall be equipped with any device that is designed for, or is capable of, jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.' If you follow the law & do not install a jammer device in your vehicle, the only chance you have against laser is to hope Law Enforcement targets a vehicle ahead of you & your detector picks it up in time for you to slow down! For that purpose alone, the Valentine One is still very effective!

In australia we have the same issue. However we can install laser based parking sensors from alpriority. That have a unique feature. Check out alpriorityusa.com. I will be installing on gt3 when it arrives down under in a couple weeks.

i have 6 V1's, not all working, sometimes i drive over them. i am very near sighted, so stay out of my way on track.

i would be happy if mike add a anti laser anti radar instant firing missile to the V1. make them lwt (the missile) that is.

Ive been using V1 since 2000 and a big fan. I just looked at their site forst time in 10 years today and saw the SAVVy and bluetooth adaptor.

I cant believe they sell all those ugly dongles to add basic functionality to the unit. That large metal V1 case should be almost empty now after 20 years of Silcon valley micro processor evolution, for got sake cant they include those simple features within the main unit? How hard would it be to make the remote display Bluetooth and include a speed variable volume? Heck the competition have fitted GPS into packages half the size. With all those RJ45 plugs hanging off the thing it would look like a 1920s telephone exchange once you added a few convenience features!

I love my Valentine, like I love my daily driver Rolex watch but sweet Jesus its getting a bit long in the tooth. Mike Valentine must be a very rich man with alot of free time....(lucky b@stard!)

 

Valentine has been surpassed in many tests. But those well-placed adverts in car magazines have kept that company selling an outdated-product for a decade plus. Mike valentine is still using that old picture of himself from when he was a young man.. Pretty funny actually. There hasn't been real investment in that radar detector in eons, but we still buy into that whole "arrow" stuff, hook line and sinker

 

Exactly. I'm not sure why so many people on the forum will use an outdated radar detector on their new $140,000 GT3?

In my case because I already have 4 of them hiding in my other cars glove compartments etc and don't want to o buy new ones but recently I don't even put them on the car anymore. I think when its time I will get a ticket regardless. They don't have to ZAP you with their radar to give you a ticket. They are "trained" to estimate how fast you were going. Thats how I got my last one.

 

I remember your description of that ticket.

I would have fought it in court. Very good case you could win.
"Without objective data, there is reasonable doubt on the accuracy of the officers testimony, and the likelihood of prejudice against an expensive sports car"....etc.

Those kind of tickets can be dismissed. I've done it and won.

 

You are correct Drifting. I seriously thought about it but being it was out of town I let it go. They target out of town license plates knowing they won't come back to fight the ticket.

 

There are some detectors that have surpassed the V1 in some areas. Maybe I'm not up to date on the very latest and greatest, but AFAIK there is still no other detector that identifies where the radar source is coming from as opposed to merely beeping at you.

 

so what to get...Redline , Passport Max?

My V1 seems to be going off constantly in the neighborhood which is annoying.

 

I buy into the arrows full bore. It has saved me many many times in the double radar traps they set up here in the Midwest, mostly the troopers on the main interstates. It really IS an advantage to ME, so much I won't buy another detector which doesn't give me anything the V1 doesn't. Every time it goes off outside of town, I pretty much know what to expect. The question I ask is why doesn't Escort put the arrows in, the patent has obviously probably worn out by now. Anyone got ideas?

 

I agree whole heartedly pertaining to GPS signal marking and eliminating false alarms, but at what price? The V1 is STILL unbelievable sensitive that I am getting way early detection for miles so increased sensitivity to me is just fluff.
Escort is always finding ways to jack up the price yearly for fluff.
