I agree with M3EvoBR and sunnyr. As I'm getting older, I have become less willing to spend money on expensive sports cars. I can't see myself paying $150K for a lowly optioned GT3 including taxes and was unrealistically hoping for a lower base cost. The C7 with the Z51 at likely half the price looks like a better buy. I think in the past, Porsche offered the best product at its price point, but now the competition is catching up fast.

I don't understand the shock and surprise at the $136K price. I don't like to make assumptions, but bear with me for a moment. The issue of PDK/MT aside, IF the information we got at the top of this thread and in follow up posts is true, then a new motorsport engine combined with an improved chassis and brakes will produce a 991 GT3 that revs higher, makes more power, produces faster lap times, and will overall outrun a 997 RS (assuming equal driver skill). Also keep in mind that with Porsches there has always been a fairly direct correlation between performance and price, certain very limited models excepted.
In it's last year of production, the 997 RS had a base price of about $138K. Why would we expect that a 991 GT3, presumably with higher performance, would sell for much less than that? Not to mention the fact that with Porsche's price structure for these cars beginning to emerge, it's clear that a 991 RS will likely base for something north of $165K.
There may be any number of reasons why someone doesn't want to play this game anymore, but if you do, whether it's in a 3 or an RS, as always you're going to have to pay.

PCNA can easily sell all the allocations of 991 GT3 at $150k-$160k.
GT3 buyers only buy GT3s.
Non-GT3 buyers now have the option to buy one because there is an automatic transmission.
More potential buyers than ever before (thanks to the auto tranny), and tested waters as people already paid $225k for 8 years old look GT3s not long ago.
The market for automatic transmissions is much larger, and the GT3 is a Halo car, there is no need to sell it cheap anymore.
Even at $160k, it is cheap, and it is the best VW, because it is the new GT3.
