Mine 2015 failed at 17k miles. I bought it in November with15k miles. The engine is on order. Dealer says none stateside, it’s coming from Germany. My engine was F series.
Sorry, are you saying the out-of-warranty cost of replacement of an engine/labor is $150k+? That seems dubious.
Also, particularly for those praying they win the blown engine 'lottery' before warranties expire, it doesn't appear that any 991.1 GT3s are actually out-of-warranty for the engine yet. Who's to say that Porsche wouldn't still comp engine replacement six months or a year after an engine warranty expires? They've clearly shown that they're willing to do the right thing, and GT buyers represent an important segment for the brand.
Towards end of warranty its a reasonable gamble to have a dealer open it up and inspect for the obvious signs. It will cost you about $6K if they find nothing, but if they do it will cost you $0 and you'll get a new G6. After going into limp mode once my SA advised that they open it up, sure enough the signs were there and they replaced the engine under warranty. My car is a 2016 and had a G engine, one of the last off the line. It had 17K miles on it when it was replaced.

.
No, the parts + labor cost that a few members have shown from dealer invoices is ~40-50k. This is the current difference in typical sale prices between the .1 and .2 cars.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only difference between G and E/F motors centers around better oil journals and oil delivery. No doubt better materials/processes were used for the FF and possibly the Cams. Additionally, we now know that Porsche rebuilt some of the motors that were returned back but what I'm not sure of if the rebuilt E/F motors ended up with G designations.
Of course the other issue being early E motors swaps that included Rod swaps and torque related issues.

I've seen that number quoted too. In my case it was $86K, the SA showed me the invoice when I picked the car up. If I remember correctly about $5K of it was labor.

No, my car came with a G0 from the factory and was replaced with a G6.

The blocks of the failed motors are reused. All the components are new. So yes, a failed E, F, or G block becomes a G6. The block was not the cause of the failures.

Late F got modified heads with new camshafts and lifters. G further optimizations in oiling, late G / G6 got DLC coated camshafts.

Thank you. I asked this before and did not see a response from anyone, perhaps you know. Will the G6 Heads, Cam, FF etc bolt on to E & F motors? I'm assuming they would!
Is inspecting the engine itself the only way to check which series engine a car has?
If you have the VIN you could call a local dealership service dept. and ask them to look it up. When the engine is replaced the maintenance book is supposed to be stamped, you could look there too.
Update for those interested. Engine arrived yesterday. So roughly a week from diagnosis to new engine arriving from Germany. Let's see how long the install takes. Maybe I'll have it this week! Looks like the serial number is G61405 from the crate? I looked up the part number.. https://parts.porscheofannapolis.com...ne-9a1100975ex
$44K + $28K core charge...

The install is the quickest part if they have the labor to take it on. It's completely plug-and-play, they had mine installed the day it came in and kept it for one additional day to make sure everything was perfect.
Interesting to see where the sequential serials climb each time somebody posts theirs. For reference, I was 1140 in 12/2020... so ~300 replacements since. They must be sick of this by now.
