How a dented 930 Turbo hood may me drive my cars more...
Back in the day I had an 89 930 Turbo. I would never drive the car as I wanted to keep the miles low. I would always come out when the kids were in the garage to make sure nothing happened to the car and kept them away from it. One day I was soldering some pipe in the bathroom. When I was finished I went back to put the tools away as my hands were full with tools and a propane torch. When I walked by the car the torch popped out of my arms and landed dab smack in the middle of the hood. My wife laughed so hard because of all the times I got on the kids case to be careful and I was the one who dented the car not one of them. Got that fixed and a year later had a huge oil leak from the car sitting and had it towed to the dealer for repair. I finally realized how ridiculous all of this was.
Fast forward to today and I'm a strong advocate of extreme usage at every given opportunity. Especially since the next owner will clearly not be able to provide any acceptable from of return. My RS and Huracan of which both are 2019's have 16k and 12k miles respectively. I have more miles on these cars then my SUV.
This weekend I went to Bryce Canyon National Park in my Huracan on Saturday and Zion National Park on Sunday. When you first walk up to the canyon rim and see the Hoodoos at Bryce it will take your breath away. It is one of the most gorgeous pieces of scenery I've ever seen. Driving back through Cedar Breaks and Duck Creek is filled with twisties and almost zero traffic. Since it's off the beaten path I've never seen any LE as well. Don't miss out on a minute of driving at every opportunity. You will never regret it.
When I was a kid I went to Bryce, Zion and Arches national parks with my parents. Just indescribable beauty! Wish I lived close enough to drive my car through those canyons. Great photos thanks!
This is exactly why I never PPF my cars. The little nicks that accumulate remind me that it's just a car, meant to be driven, and the imperfections take nothing away from the driving experience.
Those pictures are absolutely stunning - thanks for sharing - I have been trying to get up there on a road trip - it was delayed due to Covid (but will get it back on the calendar)..
I think your story about the dent in the hood is so cool - when we figure out that these are cars and driving them is what makes them fun - the better. I realize some people derive enjoyment from a garage queen that's meticulous - but I personally dont get it.
I'm just in the process of taking delivery of a Miami '19RS WP with 3200km. Coffee and cars, no rain, never tracked. So clean you could pass it for showroom new. The perfect "used" car!
Rest assured, the RS's quiet days are over! IT WILL BE DRIVEN, HARD!
Wow gorgeous pics, thanks for sharing. Also appreciate the message. I like to think of mine as a garage queen and now have less guilt about doing things like this:
I think the moral of your story is don't carry an arm full of heavy metallic items around your car in the garage. As to your other conclusion, that sounds good too. Every Porsche owner gets to define what their ownership enjoyment experience entails. For me it is the very occasional sport cruise in my GT car usually involving me eating and/or drinking with the Grim Reaper in my sight
