Appreciate all the support here! Happy to report that Irvine Porsche called and agreed to waive the 600.00 to replace the bumper. Interestingly, the service advisor was nowhere to be found. The valet guy must have been instructed to quietly hand over the keys.
A couple calls later I found an indy shop that was happy to do the same work for 1900.00. A whopping savings of 2k.
Congratulations on a the outcome. There are instances when this forum can be very helpful, insightful, etc. and I believe this thread is one of them. Certainly some may disagree about using a forum to share concerns or grievances. In this case in my opinion it certainly worked in your favor. It is safe to assume someone from the dealer who manages their reputation did a google search and recommended a different solution.
I did the 2 year service myself. Spent around $400 for all the parts, oil and brake fluid and took me around 4-5 hours to do it all one Saturday. I do have a lift though in my garage which makes it a lot easier.

There were only 17 scews and two alignment pins when I removed the bumper of my GT3T.
I was impressed at the Engneerng that went into making the car maintainable - that does not occur by accident at Porsche and is a real feature that not everyone gets to see.
Again, I see the same theme here; superior cars and terrible USA dealers.
Same thing happened at Napleton- dropped off my 997 GT3 before work a few yrs ago for Sharkwerks Bypass install thinking it wouldnt cost more than a few hundred $ based on Sharkwerks estimated install time; called a hour later and the service dept said 10 hrs / $2000...at which point i said no. They said the bumper cover was off and they could put it back on but it would cost over $500. They graciously (NOT) knocked it down to $350 after I spoke to the service manager. Have never been back until calling yesterday about the 20K service for the 991.2 GT3 ($2800). Again, hard pass...will be taking it to Midwest Eurosport or Ogden Motorcar
$2k for Sharkwerks install is bordering hilarious. I'd expect $300-500 even at dealer labor rates. Bumper doesn't even need to come off on some cars. Not sure about 991 GT3. But I don't think it does on 997 GT3.
The 2 year service is required on our new to us 2019 GT3 with 6k miles. We were quoted $2500 here in Sacramento which, while expensive is inline with the more reasonable dealerships. What are peoples feelings on DIY, using an Indy vs the Dealer with regards to warranty support down the road? I know in theory it should not matter with proper proof the work was done, but I have heard that given a warranty claim, say with an engine or trans the a dealer may fight harder for you if you maintained the car with them. Normally I do all our maintenance work, but am thinking of going dealer for this car just because of the cost of repairs if there was ever a question.
I was charged 1700.00 for an oil change and a new battery at the dealer I have a good relationship with this last month. I was speechless. They knew I was planning to trade it in and buy a gt3. I complained to my sales manager and he got involved by speaking to the service manager, who was a gentleman , he credited me back 300.00. Apparently , they charged me 2 hours plus on the battery change labor cost. how crazy is that. I figured the most 350 for the oil change and between 500-600 for the new battery. So a 1000 bucks max. They told me the blew out all the drains. If you don't speak up, they will over charge you. Maybe we all should invest in opening a independent Porsche service center next door to every Porsche dealer across the country that charges reasonable rates.

I am not trying to make you more angry over the situation but i think you should read this about the drains in the 991 cars.
If you take pictures/videos while performing DIY work yourself, they cant deny anything. Warranty of the car does not have any terms that state recommended maintenance has to be done by a porsche dealership.
Granted im not in california, but my indy did my recent service, which included:
Track Inspection
Labor to replace girodisc rotors and labor to replace pads
Spark Plugs
Castrol Racing brake fluid
Oil Change
Wipers
Air Filters
Pollen Filter
Took my 2018 GT3 Touring for service at Porsche Irvine, in Orange County, California after 5,440 miles.
Was told I needed my 2-year service.
Service advisor Tom Nerhus quoted me $3,838.96 for the following:
- Replace Brake Fluid
- Replace Air Element
- Replace Pollen Filter / with AC Disinfectant service
- Replace Spark Plug
I questioned the cost, and asked if this was a ‘standard’ dealer rate.
I was told that the plugs themselves will be 1/3 of the cost. The air filter is another 1/3 due to labor.
Was hesitant at the time, but needed to leave for a meeting and wasn’t prepared to ‘negotiate’ service. A quick search, unfortunately done after the dealership was closed, revealed that I’ve been grossly over-quoted.
I plan on calling them first thing in the morning to take back my car and go elsewhere. Purpose of my post is to warn others to hopefully not make the same stupid mistake as I have. This is the same dealership that tried to quote me $800+ to install my lithium battery- due to ‘reprogramming of chip’ in the car. Should of learned then…
Just got quoted the same service in Columbia, SC with 4,766 miles for $1,560.00.
