I know not everyone has the means or space, but nothing on that list is remotely difficult or time-consuming. The plugs would be way easier with the wheels removed, but not necessary. But if you're going to do a bleed, they're coming off anyway. You could knock all of that out yourself in a couple of hours at home on a Sunday. The only thing I've paid a dealer to do is the PDK service.

Good to see all the replies, great info on market pricing, which seems to be at or just above $2K - at which point the dealers are still making a good profit. also spreads the word on dealers who treat their customers as complete idiots.

I know this has been discussed before, but I still don't understand why spark plugs need to be changed on a time interval rather than mileage. The maintenance schedules says to change plugs every 2 years or 12 000 miles.

My guess is that the schedule 'assumes' that people that buy the GT3 are regularly tracking the car, but for those that do not (or some of the garage queen's), what are the 'negative' consequences to only replacing the plugs on the mileage interval (instead of time) if one does not track the car? I would have to believe that the engine is better built than 'regular' 911's and the spark plugs are 'better quality' than standard, so there really should be no misfires/poor fuel consumption etc vs the regular 911's (if anything they should last longer).

Anyways, I think some dealers just have a 'standard' price for service, regardless of what is done. They probably have an 'ADM' for service as well, lol. Last time when I took my 997 in, some of the list of repairs included replacing all 4 TPMS ($1500 - I just bought 4 HUF (OEM supplier) for $100 and will change with tire replacement), fuel cap lanyard was broken so change fuel cap ($130 or so, but the fuel cap is $18), windshield wiper fluid pump needs replacing ($600) but the part is $80. Needless to say I can change the fuel cap myself, and will tackle the wiper fluid pump myself as well.

At the same time, I do have them do the 'bigger' jobs (Water pump, AOS, PASM), while more expensive than independents, it is not that much more, I get a loaner, they have the service records, and they then treat me 'better' whenever I bring my car in. (last time the 997 was in, my drivers side window actuator broke when they were servicing the car, he asked if I would pay for the part and they would not charge labor which I though was fair).

LOL Just do the sparks yourself. For someone with no experience its a 3-4 hour job MAX. Plugs are about $124 add another 200 for tools and boom done. GT3's are insanely easy to replace them on. What the Stealerships charge is absurd, for them its about 1 hour to replace the plugs.

That seems like a $1000 job at an indy shop. Insanity.

Both Irvin and Newport are owned by the same people... Autonation... even the employees hate them.

Why is it easier with the wheels off? I'm going to do this job this weekend so any tips are helpful. I'm going to have the rear and side mufflers off while doing it as I'm putting on an exhaust - - will that help?
