Default 911 Turbo Do not hold their Value!

You can find 911 Turbos much cheaper than GT3's.. Why is that?? No manual option, I get that.. Any other reason though? even auto gt3's sell for close to retail.

So, in the late 90's I had (delusional) aspirations of being a DJ and bought a pair of Technics SL-1200 Mk2 for about $430 apiece. Just checked... cheapest used ones in decent condition (all counterweights and arm not bent) I can find are $499.

Meanwhile, Compact Disc turntables were the latest tech then, and top quality were $800+ apiece. Today, assume everyone is in the landfill.

For me some of the appeal of the turbo is it's the fastest version, so when they bring out a new turbo S that decimates the old one that spotlight shifts. I dare say many of the turbo owners are flush enough to just go 'yeah why not' when the dealer rings and suggests a trade up.

Can't imagine I'll be getting a call to trade up my GT3 to a 992, so you're stuck looking at the used options.

This is not news. And it has a red interior. A one or two year old Turbo always takes a huge hit and can be a good buy....

The Turbo is a main line car, sold over many years. Anyone can walk in and order up a Turbo. Porsche "had" been limiting the number of GT cars and production years are limited. Supposedly with the GT4, there is no limit, there are multiple cars for sale across the country right now. We'll see what happens to the used prices.

It actually does ok at holding "value" or maybe more appropriately stated at a consistent depreciation curve when driven. The curve on the GT cars is different based on a variety of factors, which is what others have alluded to.

I would suggest a Turbo S is a daily driver that does what it’s suppose to do for utilization/enjoyment. It’s a very expensive daily driver, and daily drivers depreciate appropriately as it lacks exclusivity. I see it very normal, and the proxy can’t be GT cars. Look a the Panamera Turbo’s as I place them in the same category very daily drivers, and Porsche has pushed many of these cars over 200k the airs begins to get thin. Lots of choices over 200k vs a expensive Porsche if you want exclusive looks.

No emotions therefore less interest
GT cars biggest selling points are the emotional connection and for the most part that is missing in 911 Turbo/S

Basically the sounds of a GT3 create the "more" emotional comparison.....it all depends how and where you drive the TTS........when I tracked a TTS versus a GT3 for the first time at Barber, the TTS surprised me more than the GT3 as far as capabilities, did not expect it to be track competent.

Could not believe how good it was on track.......

With a GT car it is like getting kicked in the *** hard that keeps kicking and in a TTS, it is like a jet propulsion pulling me forward experience...... with no end in sight...both great experiences and car connections.......pure adrenaline.....

Turbo used to be "the 911" to have, until the GT cars came along. Turbo's lower desirability and higher production numbers drive the used prices down.

No, even when the first Turbo came in 1975, many had figured out already that the 73RS was the better car (was still cheap then, though never sold in the US).

Besides the '73 & '74 RS, you couldn't buy a new GT/RS car in the USA until recently. So until 996 came along, the Turbo (S) was the top dog in USA.
