Default Roll on race best starting RPM?

991.1 roll on race.hmmmmm
whether you’re in 2nd,3rd, or 4th gear depending on mph, what is the best rpm to start out at in a roll on race with our car? I would assume it’s at the max torque which I think is 6250 k in our car? To those of you with experience with roll on type racing which as we all know our cars aren’t the fastest for that ( more of the turbo S world , straight line) , but ours are best on the track. I get that ,I’m just stating that disclaimer before people respond to this post stating that our cars are not drag race cars and there for the track. I get that and understand that. LOL. My point is when you’re out farting around and the Corvette guys( yes usually corvette guys) want to do roll-on races with you, what’s the best starting point RPM wise to stomp on it take it to 9K in each gear and see where the chips fall LOL. This is going to start a good chat I have a feeling 🤣😜

At least 7,500rpm in manual mode and immediately move it to auto mode after the hit to let the transmission make the redline up shifts.

Doesn’t matter for me though because my Vette (C6 ZR1) smokes my 991.2 GT3 when I’m driving the Vette and I let the wife drive the GT3. Honestly, the GT3 does really good figuring it’s down 200rwhp.

really? 7500k as the starting point? Great point to slap it over to auto from manual mode after the initial starting point To do the rest of the upshifts ( Enables you to keep your eye on the road and not the tachometer)

yep, you want to be near hp peak, not torque peak. Also, running auto after initial hit prevents the rev limiter from engaging and losing valuable momentum.

Also turn on the PDK Sport mode for redline and crisper shifts.

I guess when you think about it does it make more sense to just leave it in sport mode auto, and use the paddle shifter to downshift ( while leaving it still in auto mode) to your starting point, and floor it and let sport Pdk do its thing? Then you don’t have to bother even slapping it from manual over to auto after your initial hit? Or if you don’t leave it in auto mode in the beginning I guess you risk the possibility of it upshifting before you want it to when you initially launch even if you paddle shift it down to the RPM you want?

I would argue that your first presumption was correct, that you want to start at whatever the max torque figure is...but I agree that the tranny should be in manual and then moved to auto and in sport mode...with suspension and exhaust in sport mode too. As to roll racing vette's, none of them ever want to do that, the only people that ever want to race me are the superbikes (aka liter class sport bikes)

High torque cars like Corvettes you want THEM very high on their RPM. Against a turbo car you want the opposite very low RPM.

I think it would depend somewhat on the speed at the start. Having peak torque probably works well from slow speeds and peak horsepower necessary once moving pretty fast at the start.

i'd say around 7k rpms or above. definitely not below 5k.

best bet is to race from a dig. the rear engine traction combined with pdk is going to shoot off while the FR cars are spinning their wheels trying to catch up

When doing a roll race I usually try to be at or around 7K RPM, and as other have said - to hold the gear I put it in manual shift mode - and once we begin the pull I switch it to automatic. I never found the need for PDK sport- WOT is WOT from my experience.
