raclaims - amazing collection! Does your R have the SMFW? If so, how does it compare to the dual mass flywheel in your Speedster? Is the difference that marked?

I had a fellow Touring owner tell me that he drove an R and to him, the R felt like a Touring but with a softer chassis, similar to your impression. The nice thing about the DSC controller is you can titrate the chassis to taste. It would be cool if DSC came up with an "R" setting for the 911; it would be fun to get some representation as to what the car feels like, chassis-wise, anyway.

Exactly. The R is a RS with a manual transmission with softer suspension.

The Touring is a GT3 without a wing.

RS > GT3 (this is universal Porsche law, lol)

End of debate. Can we move on?

Sums them up perfectly

Yes mine has the smfw and yes it makes a big difference

I have to say I’ve loved each 991 for it’s intended use and think Porsche engineers are geniuses

If I could only keep one it’s the R without question

next up I plan to drive the 997 RS 4.0 back to back with the R to see which is the overall king

Great thread.
i am considering an R, though the current prices have me a little worried that I’ll be afraid to drive it thereby defeating the purpose.
It would complete my best of 991s along my 3rs 2rs and speedster though I may trade one of those to get into the R.
Looking to more discussion, may help me decide on my first world problem haha

GTSBoneDoc, there's a nice 911R that just listed on BaT, link below. It has the SMFW, and 6K miles, so it would definitely be a nice driver! It would definitely round out a great 911 collection for you! I do agree that the SMFW clutch makes a BIG difference.

I've put 1500 miles on my 911R in 14 months, no regrets. Good Luck!

I drove the R again today
it’s the most fun for the street of the 991s no doubt assuming you love a manual trans

It’s so much better than I expected it to be. It’s not hype. It’s a GT3RS manual for the street that happily goes sideways at will

it’s a giggle machine

Funny you say that my buddy has owned every 911 model built and all the numbered cars …..the R is the one car he said he will never sell. I need to drive the darn thing. Enjoy in good health. Many don’t realize it’s a RS body front end and bubble roof.

Great post... i’ve had quite a few P cars and my RS makes me giggle a lot. It’s so ridiculously good on every level. It’s the perfect car for me. I will add a speedster this year as I live in SoCal.

Perfect car for PCH, I lived in LA for 40 years before moving to ATL/NYC. You will love it.

congrats on the R. Great car and not really anything out there that replicates the driving experience. Look forward to the comparison with the 4.0

i personally feel the Speedster and R are the two 991 road cars to have. Different enough but both great

with all of your great cars....you need to get a good chrono to wear.

Can't agree with this one "the Speedster is a convertible GT3 with some fancy added"

I believe you know that 991 Speedster is equipped with individual throttle body engine from 2019 European GT3 RS (same engine was on 2019 GT3 RS, Europe only, which is the closest to a Cup car engine that has ever been installed to a 991)
As you know the Type of the Speedster on Coc is not a Speedster but R and this is for a reason.
There are many parts directly from the R etc.
