911R vs Speedster Comparison

I just don't foresee Porsche watering down the GT cars to the point of having a GT3 Touring Cab. Will PDK be offered as well?! And with back seats? Where does Porsche draw the line? Is the GT division really going to become a "lifestyle" brand where every model has a GTS and a "GT3" - Macan, Cayman, Panamera, etc? I predict the only open-top GT car will remain the Speedster. No cab, no Targa.

I keep reading about these date nights in cars with LWBS. Were the ladies wearing sweatpants?

The article is spot on
i can’t post it enough on rennlist
The speedster is to me the best all around 911 I’ve ever owned or driven
Yes I’m keeping the RS4.0 forever but the speedster may end up with most miles on it of any car I own. I just can’t stop grabbing the keys and frankly my desire to buy more cars has disappeared (for now lol)

I’m not taking away from all the other special things about the speedster. Like I said, I’m sure it is an AMAZING car to start with. When that is multiplied by an open top, it starts being hard for a hard-top experience to compete.

Haha, could it be that it feels "smoother" because there is less screaming from the engine..??

My exact wish a few posts prior. Come 'on Porsche, if you are listening, this is not diluting the GT brand, but to give customers what they want. I want a more special version of my 991 Carrera S Cab from a few years back - more special motor, gearbox, steering feel, and suspension, that's all.

Have to say the 991 Speedster was, in many ways, one of the toughest cars to estimate on press launch I've come across—maybe only second to the Carrera GT and for very, very different reasons.
It's been fun to compare/contrast owner reviews since sharing my first take after a day with the car in Sardinia, and now to read JL's "second take." I remember wondering if the Speedster's unique character among GT cars might charm and beguile, particularly for owners, and that long conversation over dinner with the GT engineers. It was a very interesting discussion, and their gut take seems to have been proven out. And if anything is abundantly clear, I need to try a US Speedster.
And fwiw, I'd probably prefer a GT3 that looked like a Cabrio but had the Speedster's bracing (so no back seats). But I'd prefer a lightweight, soft-window GT3 Targa even more…

With respect to Porsche offering a GT Cab, to me that's the Speedster. I realize it's an expensive and low number model that's not attainable to many, however there are certainly other great 911 cab options. I'm not a cab guy so not the most sympathetic to those who would like to see one in the standard GT lineup. That said, it might be cool to see a 911 Touring offered in a Cab and/or Targa. Just a thought.

For me, the open top Porsche to get has always been the one that was purposefully designed and built as a roadster, the Boxster. All 911 cabs to me look like an afterthought that butchers up the beautiful 911 coupe form. Now that the Boxster received a proper 4.0 NA engine, there’s even less of a reason to compromise with a 911 cab. A short backroad run makes it clear that the Boxster is a sports car and the 911 cab is a (very capable) grand tourer, especially in their newer iterations.
The 718 Spyder looks much better than the Speedster just as any Boxster looks much better than any 911 cab — to me, of course.

JL's entire Top 10 write up is just plain weird. The title is "The Best 991-Gen Porsche 911s I've ever Driven" (my emphasis).
He puts the mechanically identical GT3T in 10th place and the Winged GT3 at No. 1. Then he puts the 991.2 911 GTS at #9 and rates the mechanically identical 50th Anniversary at #2. Okaaaay.
He's better with words than logic.
