I have owned most versions of the 991 generation, including both GT3(manual) and RS…now Speedster. Never driven a R though.
Speedster is by far my favorite car I’ve ever owned, I’ve recently owned a 718 Spyder aswell, which was an amazing car. Lucky to own such a fabulous collection over the years.
Yep, Speedster is my favorite car I've ever owned as well. Took delivery almost four years to the day, and every drive continues to be so, so much fun!
OK- I got a go in a Speedster. My impression of the Speedster formula is to take a well sorted S-PASM carrera cabriolet and add GT3 engine and shifter, muffled a bit by OPF (fixable). I get the Clark Kent analogy, you get to pick the personality based on how aggressively you drive it. Very, very nice.
I am attempting to put the finishing touches on my perfect (to me) Porsche garage set up. That will likely involve adding an R, Speedster or Spyder RS. The only car I have 0 experience in is the R.
Do any Speedster owners plan to switch to the Spyder RS?
If you had to pick just one, do Speedster owners prefer the R?
I'm adding a Spyder RS to my collection next to the Speedster.
And yes, I prefer the 911R over the Speedster if I had to choose one (I have both). It's just a more special car overall and better driving experience/feedback.

When/why would you reach for the keys of the speedster over the R or the Spyder RS? To have a more relaxed drive without the frenetic energy of the r flywheel or srs intake? I only had 25 minutes in the speedster, not enough to really judge it
I only driven the Spyder RS for about 20mins in one PAG's example when they brough it for Rennsport, but the overall driving experience is very different from the Speedster. I rate the Spyder RS extremely highly. The calibrations in the Spyder RS is pretty spot on perfect compared to the GT4RS, whereas the 4RS suspension is just too firm for the canyons, the suspension in the Spyder RS is almost perfect.
The Speedster is more of a cruiser, think of it as a GTS Cab Plus. In stock form, the engine sounds a bit boring and muted. The Speedster is probably the only car that I would set the suspension setting in the Sport setting on the canyons because the suspension is so soft that it would bottom out in places where my 911R or other RS cars wouldn't have any problems with. The 991 Speedster is the best iteration of all the Speedster generations, because this was the first time that the motorsport department got involved in the development of the car. Still a little bit too refined and too soft for my taste, but best attempt so far.
I just love the Speedster shape, it's so unique in the 911 world.

I wholehearted agree with the COMPARISON of the R and the Speedster. AND with the comments about the 991.2 GT3RS and the 996 Series II GT3 RS. AND the 991.2 GT2 RS. ALL are great, but they are different. Each has its brilliance and each is best for a particular use. I have all of them and enjoy each for different reasons. 991 the only good looking speedster since og speedster imo
I do find the Speedster (as well as the R) is fun to drive a bit more slowly, as well as briskly - it really is bimodal. And I always set the suspension on sport when in the twisties (on ALL my cars!)
Gts plus… interesting perspective… I did kind of get the feeling it was more comparable in having a laid back vibe that you could turn to 11 with more throttle like a 992 turbo s cab than a ready to party at any moment you downshift the pdk-s spyder rs/ Gt4rs. But of course a manual and the killer looks of a speedster
Probably hard to know now, but if you skinnied down to only the essentials, does the speedster or spyder rs make the cut for a gt convertible?

It would depend on your definition of what a GT convertible is. The Speedster would be closer to a GT than the RS Spyder. RS Spyder is too hardcore to be classified as a GT convertible, but that's what I like about it.
