Best 991 variant...

Not sure where this is coming from. After all, the "winner" of this guy's top ten list is the winged 991.2 GT3 which has DNA far closer to the Touring than to the 991 R. I've yet to meet a Touring owner (and I have met many, being one myself) who would rather have the R than the Touring. The endless, never to be won debate gift that just keeps on giving...

Well, I own a 991.1 cup, 991.1 GT3RS, GT2RS and a Speedster
Of course the cup is a monster although I prefer my 997 cup.
As for the street cars:
1. Speedster - it could very well be the best 911 possibly ever for the street?? (I also own a RS4.0, 997 Turbo, 993 C2S, 964RS America) - it does everything so well. On a sunny day it's magic and visibility with the top up is excellent and makes no noise at all. It's fun at lower speeds so you don't have to constantly stare at the speedo and sweat over what excuse you will tell the cops as they handcuff you and take you away. Sure there are things I'd change/improve but the overall package is just stellar
2. GT3RS - comfy yet can still do track days with it and it's killer on the track. You can break the rear end loose with some wheel in it upon leaving a stop sign, makes great noises...but I always miss the manual
3. GT2RS - it's so composed at tremendous speeds. It's comfortable. It's a beast. But feels like my pista and lambo, etc...all speed and no real every day driving fun. Needs mountain runs or empty roads to really enjoy it.
So, the "newish" car in my garage that will have the most miles on it a year from now will be the Speedster without question. I've had it a few weeks and already have over 700 miles on it. I can't stop driving it. And doesn't that really tell the story as to what is truly the best? The one you will drive.

It's also hilarious how many winged GT3 owners feel the Touring is not a real GT3. I don't recall ever seeing a GT3 RS owner complaining about the 911R not having a wing...what's up with that?

911R/GT3RS/GT3/Touring/ Speedster - For the street they all the same crap. Just each one has some gimmicks by Porsche Marketing to take more money out of your pocket and put it in theirs'. Touring has no wing; Speedster no roof, 911R a plaque and moniker, the RS a Racer Boy wing. Have at it guys. Porsche is the one laughing at these posts and counting their Dinero

I think Jimmy is on to something. On the other hand the C8, Z06 and ZR1 appear to offer a more meaningful delta for their lineup.

The touring is a great car. I’d prefer it over an R if I wanted that classic silhouette. A GT3 has a wing, like all cars in Group GT3 Racing. The original 911R didn’t have a wing or tail, just as the present day 911R doesn’t...are you seeing a pattern here? So yes, I don’t think it should’ve been called a GT3, but instead something more 911R...ish😁 I hope you enjoy your car as much as I do mine. Zero desire for an RS, but there’s folks on here that are RS or nothing 😆 and that’s ok! Pick your flavor, like Jimmy D said...

Truth is it was an entertaining read to me and it shows how pervasive and important the 991 has been. Hopefully the 992 continues this tradition and we are all arguing over the best 992 in 7 or 8 years!
Enjoy all the cars - they are all great.

He replied, 'No, I have an airplane hangar stuffed with Porsches.' We've been best car buds ever since, and I figured getting an owner to weigh in on the pantheon of 991s would prove educational. Here is his list, as well as comments about his cars:
911 R: The 911R is Porsche's modern hot rod, a raw, fun, manual screamer. Not great for date night, as it is very loud with so much insulation removed, but great for a Sunday morning solo jaunt up the Pacific Coast Highway. The manual transmission is sublime.
991 GT2 RS: A maniacal automotive locomotive that needs to be pushed to really be appreciated (and scare the driver). This is best enjoyed on your favorite on-ramp--it's all instant velocity and blurred scenery.
991 Speedster: A cruiser and a convertible with carbon-fiber bodywork aplenty, coupled with a superb manual transmission and the fabulous GT3 engine. It can be a great weekend getaway car or a nice "summer cruise to dinner with the wife" car. The perfect California open-top car.
*991.1 GT3 RS: This is a PDK-equipped, Porsche RS marvel, with a slightly softer and compliant suspension than the 991.2 version. This is a favorite for canyon drives on the weekends. Love the raw sports-car sounds, which are sure to make any occupant and passersby smile."
