I believe the sport exhaust is on when you first start the car, since it needs the vacuum of a running engine to close the valve. My car gives a loud bark on start up, quite exhilarating, before settling down. As to PDK Sport Mode fore street driving, yeah, just use it on manual.

funny, I was told the exact opposite. I picked my 3RS up at PECLA last year and the master mechanics there told me as well as my group not to let the car warm up at idle for very long. Warm it up by driving, not sitting. as for brakes mine are ceramic so maybe that doesn’t apply. The thing that is really important are warming up the tires.
