CarPlay is easy in the 991.1, just got to add an module and some wiring.
It is a concern, until you really start to push the car, and then you are amazed at the speed it can attain! PDK is incredible. With ever increasing traffic, and tailgaters, PDK is superior.
Back to the OP, the 991 GT3 is an incredible machine! It totally won me over on all counts. I drove everything I could in and out of budget, and kept going back to the GT3. Really the only thing that is missing is low end torque and a manual.
I was watching that one. It's a unicorn, it has quite a few miles, and is in Canada. Still, should have gone for at $25k more. Option wise it's PERFECT!
I was personally looking into .1 GT3, but two reasons I won’t. First, no manual, and second, it’s going to depreciate down to nothing once the 10yr warranty is up. You basically have 4-6 years left, not that long. So you buy now, and in 2-3 years you decide to sell because you got bored of the PDK, it’s going to be a tough sell with only 1-2 years of warranty left. Just saying. If you have these fears now, what will it be then.
You can never go wrong with a GT3! Especially if you send it over to get our Performance Package, Everything from headers and a tune to tips and filters!

I'm having same thought, found 991.1 gt3 with gmg bypass, xpel front and back, engine warranty til 2024, price $118k, so why not buy it? Save $50k vs .2. Only thing holding me up is I do prefer manual, lol.
Both great Cars, but very different 991's. GT3 is light ,nimble & responsive with relatively high Engine & Tire noise level.
Turbo is a Torquey, Quiet, Comfortable 4 WD Country-Crosser that can hold 2 kids with amazing Launch-Controlled acceleration.
For tracking I much prefer the GT3, for long 700+ mile long driving days in any weather with my wife, I prefer the Turbo.
Evaluate how you want to use the car. Drive both and decide. As said above, You can't go wrong with either car.
I don't think your assumptions are merit-based in fact for the following reasons:
If the engine has not failed in 8-10 years, it probably is not one of the affected powerplants. Similar to the IMS issue.
The 991.2 will be without warranty before the 991.1. Personally, I would rather buy a 991.1 that is 5 or 6 years out, than a 991.2 that has no warranty on the engine. This is especially relevant if it is tracked regularly.
Many folks prefer PDK, it is simply faster, less effort on the track and safer for the engine sans the money shift.
The 991.1 2016 model is a different engine oiling design than the 14 & 15's. The 2016 engines, to my knowledge, have not experienced any failures due to the finger follower issue.
No consideration of future pricing is taken into your assumptions. If the 992 gets priced wildly high, which is a safe bet (with ADM) given what a nicely optioned "S" sells for, this will affect used prices.
Speculative, but there is a possibility that there will no ICE's in a few years built by Porsche. This will affect resale prices on combustion powerplants as enthusiasts will always want one, similarly to those that still remain in the manual camp today.
100% this
my old, out of warranty, POS, 2008 GT3 drives like a champ and seems to be retaining (if not improving) its value......so, who the hell knows

I'd damn near bet you can get that car for $110K too
Given the insane .2 market right now, I'm back on the .1 hunt. I'm down to deciding between 2 cars...Both are the same price-ish.
1. Fully optioned 14 (Leather, PCCB, PDLS, FAL, 18-way, etc) and E1 motor with 25k mi. Drive the thing and try to get the grenade out of there.
2. Almost no option 16, G engine with 27k mi. CPO until 2022.

Which one would you guys lean towards?
GT4!!! I never planned to buy one, kinda just happened and just beyond words how damn good this car is. I was looking for 911.1 MT GTS, perhaps gt3, but with pricing and availability, I bought gt4. Never had mid engine, been now to 3 track events and I can’t explain how well balanced this car is.
Just install Soul OAP, then the sound is amazingly good.

I feel ya. It's kind of emotional for me now. Literally the GT3 has been my desktop wallpaper since 997.1. Getting close to 10 years now. It's kind of like a dream car. Now, I'm finally in a position to buy one. I have blinders on towards everything else. Wish I can just throw down for a .2. Life would be so easy.
