If you find a clean 15-16 with a CPO and you like it I'd say go for it. My last 6 GT cars have been a mix of manual and PDK including both manual and PDK in the 991.2 GT3. I didn't get tired of any of the transmissions.

You are not crazy. Just understand the risk vs reward. My 2015 GT3 has 34k miles and has been rock solid. The issue is baked into the price.

Agree 100% Alan. This notion people will get tired of a PDK is really on an individual basis. Some people will get tired fast of a PDK, but that is because they are hard-core manual people. For them, no transmission other than manual will ever do. No problem with that. Buy what you like. I like driving my manual ZR1 because it is a totally different experience. But when I get behind the wheel of my GT3 I really appreciate the PDK. Such a great transmission. I can drive more aggressively and shifting gears is like a beautiful symphony. It fits the car perfectly. There is and never will be a "right answer" to this manual vs PDK question. All personal preference. I have both transmissions in my cars and enjoy both equally. Others may feel very different. Drive what makes you happy.

Im into air cooled manuals but have been looking to get into something more modern with PDK. These cars are getting awfully attractive as prices come down and warranties still run for another 3-4 years. They made a lot of them also which is good if your buying lots of choices out there. I only wish I could get a back seat. My kids love riding in the back seats.

There are some .1's that have engines replaced to the G engine. I would see if you could find one or a 16. But either way, the .1's engines are warrantied for 10 years. So you can go nuts till 2025/6. i think they are a lot of car for the money. i thought i saw a 16 for sale in the Rennlist classified. And one that had an engine replaced. Obviously i'd take a .2 but i think the premium is $40K or thereabouts. If you plan to drive it hard and a lot, i'd get a .1 and sleep easy that you are covered if you have an issue for 5 years. Chances are if the car hasnt had an issue in 10 years tottal. Its going to be fine.

Of course there are people chiming in on manual vs PDK which wasnt event he question. Given .1's and TT's are both PDK. But I'll chime in too. . Have not gotten bored with PDK or equivalents. Since 2009. Have had manuals too (my 993 and air cooled Porsche's) and those are fun too. I like manuals in older slower cars - I am sure now i'll get a lecture on why i am wrong - but show me a new Mac, Ferrari, Lambo, GT2RS, GT3RS and on and on with manual. Then again, i'd buy a Touring - love that car. I hope Porsche continues to make manual cars. Spyder, Speedster, GT4's, GT3's etc., so we have choices. But to say you'll get bored - that part i dont agree with.

A good approach starts with understanding your spend limits. You could stretch to a 991.2RS and be miserable in a epic car because you are constantly thinking about what it cost more than what it is meant to provide, e.g. excitement and an incredible driving experience. I know you are not thinking about a RS, was just giving an example. Same applies for the .2 GT3. You can spend hours researching the difference between these cars, as these types of questions have been asked many times.

Would I purchase a GT3 over a turbo, absolutely. I owned a Porsche 911 turbo. Great car in every way, period. The boost and straight line acceleration is amazing. Alternatively, I find driving a GT3 more enjoyable due its handling characteristics, sound and road presence. Subjectively, from a styling perspective, it is not even close for me. The GT3 looks perfect IMHO. It is a complete package car. You have more than enough power and over the top handling built into one of the best cars available when it was released. Naturally, newer models exist with improvements.

So, I would propose you would be crazy to spend more than you can afford. If I were in your position, I would find the cleanest, moderate mileage, well equipped car available. For example., PCCB, bucket seats and full leather.

Good luck!

You see a lot of if you can stretch or you are almost there so you might as well. I could have afforded a 991.2 but I decided the 991.1 is an amazing car and for around 110-125k you can get an amazing car and not even stress about it. To get a truly nice non-abused 991.2 you are atleast at 150-155k.

In regards to the 991.1 people fear the pricing will tank. It won't. It will always be a GT3. Pre-owned vehicles keep getting more and more expensive due to the new gens being so much more then the last.

I would say buy what you can afford and you won't have to think about future value!

No. Arguably one of the best value sports cars on the market. Albeit, I would wait until the dust settles from COVID19 before making any financial decisions, unless money is no object.

If you have these fears now, what will it be then.
Coming in for clarity on this forecast. In your estimation, the car will be worth $0? That’s pretty wild.

I have a '14 GT3. Rock solid, never had any issues whatsoever, pulls like a **** (to me). I don't think I can ever sell it. I can only add to it. I love it that much! The 992 GT3 should be announced soon. Impossible to keep up with the latest and greatest for most of us.

Last year I was deciding between waiting for .2 GT3 prices to come down or buying a 16 .1 GT3 with all options and color I wanted (except for full leather) at a price hard to resist. I pulled the trigger and started enjoying the car instead of waiting! I am a manual guy myself but I have a Focus RS and an Abarth for that (thinking of adding a 12 R8 v8 if prices are right). The PDK is a unique experience in itself on the GT3 and while I am sure a manual on a GT3 will drive like a dream, I will absolutely miss the aggressive upshift and downshift and the accompanying soundtrack you get with the PDK on a GT3. Everyone's preference and situation is different, but to me, a Turbo is a nice and fast 911, but a GT car is in an entirely different and higher echelon. Given the current economy, used car prices may come down and I will be watching the R8 prices

What I got bored of was a 2015 GTS (with aerokit) after 1 year.

I started with a 15 Turbo. I now have a 15 GT3. I would never go back to the Turbo, there is something infectious about 9k rpms and the goosebumps I still get driving it.

I did buy a 15 and wanted to avoid a 14 or “E” engine. I think that was not all that a big deal but I bought mine a while back right before the new warranty came out. With the new 10yr I would buy 14-16 but based on the best spec I wanted, not the year so much.

Speculation is just that. Folks here have ZERO clue of future value just like I don’t. If you are buying this car or any for future value then I would consider you invest in real estate and not a car, just saying.

Go test drive both. They are VERY different cars. You will know which one you want after two blocks. Keep us posted what you decide on.

I was on your same boat 3 months ago, turbo or GT3 (991.1 series, did not consider .2 out of my budget). I ended up getting a GT3 991.1 CPO. Being CPO and in addition having 4 more years of engine warranty it was a no brainer. LOVE the PDK, the shifts and downshifts are simply perfect and the sound it make is addicting. I still have the turbo bug but I think I will always keep the GT3. Ideally two years down the road I might sale it and get a .2, the additional 25 hp should be the sweet spot. I do worry about the future re-sale value, but if you buy it a good price, when selling the car, you might lose a grand per month (I will be happy with that). In the meantime I am enjoying the GT3 991.1, simply perfect.
