I wish the prior owner of my CPO GT3 had checked the box for delete “rear seat are not seats” warning sticker, but I understand that code ZX016 is an extra $7k, so completely understandable. So after doing a considerable amount of research I resolved to take on this project. Now you can say that this is SO unimportant since the stickers are on the back of the LWB’s so you can’t really see them unless you’re in the back seat - and you’re not supposed to be there anyway DIDN”T YOUR READ YOUR STICKER? But from the back of the car you can clearly see the stickers, and frankly on the back of these beautiful carbon fiber seats that I’ve seen listed on EBay at $30k (about 10x what I paid for my first car), they look awful. Now I know there are purists who want to keep their cars “stock” and I get that, but call me OCD. I couldn’t sleep for 3 weeks just knowing they were there. So here’s what you are going to need for the project.
1 - Paper towels - I asked my dealer how much it would cost to get OEM towels and they quoted $500 per roll, which I honestly considered given I didn’t want to risk violating my CPO warranty. But figuring it wasn’t a mechanical fix, I decided to go Bounty (note: do NOT use an off brand as it could severely affect your PCCB’s - it will seem that they are more “catchy” and that they squeal more often, louder and with a higher frequency that can affect local dogs which will attack your car).
2- Finger nail - be sure they are properly cut using only 0.1 lb ft of torque on the clipper, and that the front edge of the nail is uniform across the finger between 1-1.25 mm from the nail bed. Be sure to properly clean your nail before attempting the mod - I used the two bucket method to clean my nails and then did a clay, buff and wax.
3 - Goo Gone - Be extremely careful - ACID warning. Well it’s a gentle citric acid, but your fingers WILL smell like oranges when you are done.
Put down a paper towel directly under the seat you are working on (back floor carpet). Trust me you will want it there to catch the sticky yellow bits that fall. Then move the seat all the way forward and all the way up to give the best rear area access. Gently pick at the edges of one side of the sticker with your fingernail until you get enough sticker to gently grab it with two fingers to SLOWLY pull off the seat. When the sticker is fully removed, you will have some stickiness left.
Here’s where the Goo Gone works. Liberally apply the Goo Gone to a paper towel and then wipe the affected area until the Goo Gone. Then gently wipe the area clean with a damp paper towel and then a dry paper towel.
I tried to sit back there. It was only once I got back there and I saw the stickers I realized it was not an actual seat. Unfortunately, I was stuck until I was able to amazon prime the e bits needed to remove the seat to get out.
I kinda like the stickers on the seats. Give it a sort of fighter jet look. What I absolutely hate, though, are the airbag stickers on the sun visors. Ugh. I really hate them. Also I agree with the guy above—pop those little cushions out of the seat. Just slide a credit card under the rear panel and they pop right out. I think the seats look better without 'em.
Easier to saturate a paper towel with 91% rubbing alcohol and hold it over the sticker for several minutes. Makes it easier to peel off with less glue residue.
Can also use Tito's vodka - better than drinking that crap!
