Looking for advice as well. Currently looking at a 2015 that was a previous CPO car and still with F engine and no track time. Warranty expires at end of 2014.

Would this be considered an issue to most? Concerned about what happens in 2024…..

thanks !

I was in the same boat as you. My engine warranty is good until December 2024 as well. I decided to purchase the car anyway with the optimism that Porsche will do the right thing. I also purchased a 5 year VSP from Porsche on top of that just for my own piece of mind.

Are you going to track the car and try to win the G motor lottery? Several posts on here about sustained 8500+ runs will get you there. On the flip side, if the car has never been tracked and you don't drive it hard, there is an argument that you will never get the oil pressure and friction high enough to cause the failure. I'm in the market for a 991.1 and these things are on my mind too....

Well I was planning on tracking the car but don’t want the warranty that is expiring next December to destroy the value. Plus the CPO would not carry bc I am not buying through a Porsche dealer.

if I had engine issues, does the diagnostic work up get covered under the engine warranty if car is not active CPO? Or is all that out of pocket?

Can VSP be purchased if car was bought at non P car dealer?

The diagnostic work is covered as long as they find the wear on the finger followers or cam lobes.

My car has been on the track a few times with the previous owner (who I know quite well). It wasn't driven at the limit, so not sure if that would have been enough on it's own. My car is sitting with about 26k miles on it right now. I suppose I should try and break it on the track this summer! I just scheduled the annual service for the oil change too.

I'm not 100% sure. I would have a finance manager at Porsche run your VIN and see if they can purchase it. I've heard varying results. Some say you can buy a la carte and then some say you have to buy it while it's under some type of preexisting warranty (my car still has like 6 months of CPO left).

the car I am looking at technically is CPO for some time still even though would not be bought at Porsche dealer. Dunno if it is a bad thing to ask versus flying under the radar…

CPO stays with the car, so I don't think it matters how it's sold.

incorrect. CPO is only transferred in a transaction person to person. CPO is void as soon as a 3rd party dealer takes registration and proceeds to sell it. If its a transaction with a p car dealer, they can recertify it for another 2y starting at purchase date.

Yes. Actual impact remains to be seen.

Porsche did the right thing and provided a ten year engine warranty. Yes, it’s a known design flaw/defect but how long do you expect Porsche to cover it?

Definitely have some reservations on rolling the dice on a car where engine warranty expires in a year. Might just wait longer and save up for a 991.2

The difference you're saving up for is an entire crate engine.

Not saying that strategy is bad. But I already know of two owners that killed the bottom ends on 991.2's, rare but still happens.

Get a .1, stand of the rev limiter & profit.

Wow very interesting. With no engine warranty…
